Why Must We Be Forced to Listen to Right Wing Stupidity?
Why Must We Be Forced to Listen to Right Wing Stupidity?

Would someone please explain just why right wingers seem to get so much press? What the hell do they have to say that is worth hearing these days"? We’ve heard it all a billion times; is it really necessary for the news media to give them an opportunity to make it two billion?

This isn't about real conservatives; I can handle someone who has a good head on his or her shoulders, and simply disagrees with me on policy. No. this is about the tin-foil-hat-wearing, marry-their-own-sister redneck scumbags, who occupy the far right fringes of society. There are only about 15 million of these assholes; why should we give them equal time with people who are actually capable of thought?

You know who this is about; this is about the people with the signs, who wave down the reporter because the "Libb'rull Meedeea" is trying to hide the supposed story of how millions of "illegal aliens" are having babies at the Ritz Carlton, while they dine on caviar they bought with Food Stamps, and drink theDom Perignon they bought with their welfare check. The ones who will shout to anyone with a camera and/or a microphone that President Obama can't be president, because he's a Muslim socialist from Kenya who not only faked his birth certificate, but whose mother apparently knew , even back in 1961, that her mixed-race child would become president, so she had them put a birth announcement in the local Honolulu paper as a cover. These are the people we laugh at when we confront them in real life; yet, the media takes them seriously.

Just as irritatingly persistent as the uneducated morons who don’t know anything, are the assholes in the media and politics who openly hate and despise the uneducated morons, but who readily exploit them for a boatload of money and power.

Come on, folks; does anyone really believe Rush Limbaugh is REALLY a right winger, deep in his heart? The guy goes on junkets to the Dominican Republic with a group of other men, armed with duffels full of Viagra; he’s not a pious, God-fearing fundamentalist at all; he just takes after Pat Robertson and exploits them for their money. I think Sean Hannity actually straddles the fence between these two groups. He 's tied with Glenn Beck as the stupidest person in the media – what else can you say about someone who sat there one day last week and tried to claim that two items were in the stimulus bill that were obviously not in the stimulus bill, even as he was being told by a Congressman who had actually READ the bill that those two items were not in the bill?

And do I even have to mention Ann Coulter? There is no possible way someone with the intellectual ability to get through law school could possibly be that insanely right wing, except as an act. Same with Michael Weiner-Savage (who is so obviously trying to find out what he can say that will get him fired), Michael Medved (who as a right wing pundit is a hell of a fiction reviewer) and of course, Dennis Miller (who always told his audiences he was a whore and is now on Fox News and the radio proving it.).

Then there’s the right wing “pundit class." (and I use the term “class” advisedly.) There you have Newt Gingrich, who is now married to the woman he was getting blowjobs from as he cheated on his second wife, while he was leading the impeachment of Bill Clinton, for getting blowjobs while he was cheating on his only wife. Newtie actually started his career as a LIBERAL Republican, back when there was such a thing, and only became a right winger to get elected. Dick Morris, whose previous claim to fame was sucking the toes of prostitutes, says all the correct right wing things, but he worked for Bill Clinton. Karl Rove, the only right wing television pundit currently who has committed treason? (Go ahead, Karl; sue me; I dare you. In order to hit me for slander, you'll have to prove it's not true. By the way, have you chosen your prison gang nickname yet? How about Pin Cushion?)

1. Pin Cushion?
One can hope.
If anyone from the bu$h administration deserves a long stretch prison, it is Karl Rove.

2. We aren't forced to listen. We choose to listen
What we need to do is to stop listening and stop reading about these people. Instead, email the MSM about other folks who are doing positive things and ask why they aren't being reported about. Why? Because protests/complaints about a certain pundit or personality are, I believe, counted as interest in said person--and so they stay on the air. If they are ignored, and others talked about--well, perhaps the MSM will decide to look at these "new" people instead. The other thing we need to do is create a new venue for news. We have the beginnings of it via DU and Democracy Now, but I'm thinking we need to cultivate an online news presence that isn't automatically labeled "liberal" so that it will attract a wider audience.

9. MSM do not care what we want
The MSM aren't interested in giving us what we want, they are interested in shaping what we want. They will force feed us if necessary - we will hear the talking points, over and over.

18. Over TWO HUNDRED fucking channels, and NOTHING TO WATCH!!!
That about sums it up.

You'd think with all this cable/air space, there'd be at least something more than the thrice nightly airing of "the au-pair" or "princess bride from whateverstan"...

Back in the sixty's, we had ONE "movie of the week" - AND IT WAS DIFFERENT EVERY FUCKING WEEK FOR YEARS!!! without a repeat!

Now, a few rich repuke fatasses own ALL the cable/airspace, and we get to watch "stupid people sitting bare assed on a wasp nest"...

nice...

14. Totally agree. Boycotts are succesful.
Every time the print media calls me for a subscription, I let the caller know that as the S F Chroncicle, the NYTimes, etc all supported the lead up to the war etc, and to AT&T wiretaps etc that I cannot subscribe to the Corporate Lackey press.

And I must not be the only one. The print media was sinking in 2004 and 2005, and now it is in the gutter. I get my news on the internet. Am more informed and much happier. The exception is that if time allows I will spend a full two hours watching Keith and Rachel. It is because of those of us who will not watch FOX etc that those two have their spots on the air. Andr they are really kicking ass in many ways.

You know...with the Innerwebs, you do not have to listen to anything. You can safely ignore anything that you do not like.

If you look hard enough, there is plenty out there to piss you off. Why go looking?

11. You think it's funny?
Most of the American people, you know, the ones that vote, get their understanding from TV media. If the TV media is one sided anti Obama garbage it has an impact. We don't have to go looking.

5. You can listen to any one of a hundred shows and they all say the
same thing day in and day out. Whatever the theme of the day is. "Obama caused the recession", "Americans don't want socialist medicine", and on and on ad nauseum.
As for Limbaugh, I have always believed that even he does not believe in the shit that comes out of his mouth. But what he does know is that he must say it to keep his medicine chest full of viagra and oxy.

7. ignoring it is what got us here- 1000 local RW radio stations
and their coordinated UNCONTESTED repetition to a crowd the size of the one that voted for obama.

regardless of a corporate monolithic media whose ownership has a common interest with the GOP to deregulate and lower taxes on billionaires print and TV can't create and intimidate and turn molehills into mountains and swiftboat like the GOP talk radio monopoly can and has been doing for 20 yrs. the trad media relies on it to legitimize putting flat earthers at the table- how can that huge 'constituency' manufactured, through distortion and misinformation, be ignored? especially when you piss them off and limbaugh and hannity mention your name.

that is the single most important reason we're in this mess. it does the groundwork for all the obstruction the GOP does and will do. the internet nor technology can't compensate yet.

until americans get the message and progressive groups and unions realize the biggest impediment to democracy and progress and obama needs to finally be noticed the flat earthers will continue to be entertained on the rest of the media and on the floors of congress. it will continue to slow the country down until americans start calling, complaining, boycotting and picketing their LOCAL RW radio stations that fill the PUBLIC airwaves with lies and attacks on their representatives and causes 24/7/365 and offer no solutions except tax cuts, 'free' markets for billionaires, and hate.

13. Again, the media is our #1 challenge
and the number one problem.

The economy has a consumer confidence problem. Yet every day, all day, we hear how President Obama's decisions have been wrong. The economy keeps getting worse, I wonder why.

8. Listening to their "stupidity" is the smart albeit painful thing to do.
You can't fight what you can't see or don't know. If everybody all at once were to get the message and tune them out, that would be one thing, but in reality too many people can't or won't.

I believe Limbaugh, O'Reighley, Coulter and their ilk have two primary roles in the propaganda machine.

1. The first is to fluster you and throw you off your logical game in to the field of emotional ambiguity; which is their domain. If you consider human thought and survival based on a triad, as *Al Gore stated in "The Assault on Reason" that faith, reason and fear are a like game of rock, paper and scissors, reason trumps faith, faith trumps fear and fear trumps reason and the hatemongers can fill the people full of fear or it's cousins anger and hatred, they have an advantage, because reason is on the side of the Democratic Party. This is why the Republicans have worked so hard to corner the market from those people who based their life on faith, in spite of the contradictions to their faith. That was easy to do because faith in large measure has traditionally been afraid of reason, just ask Copernicus or Galileo. So controlling two legs of the stool was and apparently is enough for the corporate supremacist oligarchs as they can manipulate the third.

2. In the second, Einstein's Theory of Relativity on a human level comes in to play, by elevating the stature of the hatemongers and exposing the people to their vitriol, the insidious danger from seemingly moderate "conservatives" aka; corporate supremacists such as George Will, David Brooks, economic theory from the likes of Milton Freidmann etc. becomes more effective.

* As a side note, I believe this is why Al Gore drew such vitriol from their propaganda machine, by using reason to show the very real dangers of global warming climate change, fear was naturally and rightfully so put more in line with the Democratic Party's ideology. I believe this is also why the corporate media were and to a large degree still are so loath to report about this looming catastrophe, in spite of the overwhelming peer reviewed scientific evidence. Furthermore Al Gore's championing of opening up the Internet to the people threatened, their monopoly on controlling the people's ability to reason, reason was and is being enhanced by the synergy being created from the pooling of minds en-mass.

As the latest sign of the corporate media's disdain for the people's First Amendment Rights and their lobbying power take a look at the House version of the "Shield Law" bill, apparently it doesn't protect you unless you make enough money from telling the truth or exposing corruption via Whistle Blowers.

In short I believe we can't tune the hatemongers out or allow them to throw us off our logical game because of the "Five Stages of Death."

Denial: Too much denial has already taken place.

Anger: Getting angry via getting even is fine, but getting ahead is better.

Bargaining: We can't bargain with hate or it's more insidious wing of corporate supremacy anymore, the Bill of Rights has been raped too much as it is.

Depression: Stay optimistic in spite of the corporate media attempts to magnify or glorify illogical fear, hatred and pessimism. Rush Limbaugh's biggest recent mistake was in being too honest regarding oligarch-centric corporate media thought.

Acceptance: If we give up, they win, actually in the mid-long run they lose as well but that's another story.

Thanks for the thread, babylonsister.

10. Because it's good TV.
It's much more entertaining and exciting to watch and hear shouting, controversial, annoyng blowhards than actual policy debaters. You think William F Buckly would be on TV today? Boring! There's a reason the Mcneil Leherer report doesn't get much in the way of ratings and why Fox gets some of the highest. The producers of these news shows pick all the pundits from a list of willing and self promoting heads. They get paid well, it's a good job, just play the part.
