By Washington Correspondent Kim Landers
Posted Wed Jan 7, 2009 3:00pm AEDT
.. former Australian prime minister John Howard is one of the reasons US president-elect Barack Obama is living in a Washington hotel before his inauguration. Mr Obama had asked if his family could move into the presidential guesthouse, called Blair House, early so that his daughters could start school this week. But the White House told him it was booked ... Now a spokeswoman for First Lady Laura Bush has confirmed that Mr Howard will be spending at least one night there ... http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/01/07/2460984.htm

... We now know who is booked at Blair House, kicking President-elect Barack Obama and his family to the waiting list and across Lafayette Square to the Hay-Adams Hotel. The only overnight visitor at the presidential guest manse is none other than John Howard, a former Australian prime minister and leading member of President Bush's coalition of the willing in Iraq. Howard and his entourage will be bunking at Blair House on Jan. 12, the night before he, former British prime minister Tony Blair and Colombian President Álvaro Uribe are to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Bush ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/01/06/AR2009010602975.html?hpid=topnews

White House Asked Howard To Stay In Blair House To Give ‘Some Plausible Reason’ For Refusing Obama
In December, President-elect Obama asked the White House if he and his family could move into Blair House — the White House’s guest house — a week early, so that his daughters Malia and Sasha could start school. The White House rebuffed them, saying the house was already booked for another guest. A White House source added that “Blair House was appalled” by the request ... Last night on MSNBC’s “Countdown,” Bloomberg journalist Margaret Carlson revealed that when the White House turned down Obama’s request in early December, it had not yet even invited Howard to stay at the Blair House: I reported ... on December 11 and 12 that there were no foreign dignitaries booked into Blair House during that period of time ... She also pointed out that ... “ ... Howard wouldn’t even have to share a sink with the Obamas” ... http://thinkprogress.org/2009/01/07/howard-blair-house/

2. First this pissed me off but now I think its good that it happened as it proves
to the whole world, for once and for all, what vile and vindictive "people" they are.

Quite a way to go out - after the shoe thing and all.
