The Purple People Eater Will Decide Franken/Coleman
The Minnesota Chief Justice has recused himself in regard to the disputes about the Senatorial election between Al Franken and Norm Coleman. He’s given responsibility to Alan Page, an Associate Justice there. Alan Page is a former Purple People Eater. Wahoo!

1. You mean he was a Vikings defenseman?
That's wild. And now he's a judge? It's always gratifying when a jock is an educated man. Is Page a good guy on the bench?

I'm sure he tortured the Lions many times..

4. Page has been an excellent justice
and he was the DFL's first choice to step in for Wellstone but he did not want to enter the political fray.

11. He is the MAN!
There isn't a better person to guide this problem into an Al Franken victory.

Booyah Alan Page!

14. I certainly want Al Franken to win
but Alan Page will follow the law - he will not "guide" the process in any particular direction regardless of what his personal feelings may be.

3. The Vikings, back in the day
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 02:16 PM by Stingo
were known as the Purple People EAters because of their defense. At defensive tackle was Alan Page, who I think is a Hall of Famer. He was flanked by Jim Marshall at the End, and I am remiss in naming his cohort at tackle. Carl Eller! Man, my memory is not so bad! Woohoo! They were studs.

Page retired, got a law degree at University of Minnesota, and then moved to the bench.

12. Gary Larsen was the other defensive tackle.
Edited on Wed Jan-07-09 02:46 PM by rsdsharp
Carl Eller was a defensive end. Alan Page is a Hall of Famer, and is the only defensive player ever to be named NFL MVP.

The front four were the Purple People Eaters, and there goal was four all four to meet at the quarterback.

16. And Gary Larsen.
When I was growing up the Vikings were my favorite team, Bud Grant epitomized coolness.

at Bud Grant, standing out there in the freezing ass Minnesota Winter.

That's what I mean, when I say cool.

7. Here you go. I remember about the Steel Curtain, but I have to say
I don't remember the New York Sack Exchange (nor have I ever heard of it).

The song is really crazy, too.

15. I remember the Purple People Eaters!
They were the fearsome nemesis of the NY Jets quarterback I had a huge crush on: Joe Namath. Most girls at that age had crushes on pop star idols, but one look at the end of a '69 playoff game in the locker room of a shirtless Namath holding a bottle of champagne had me hooked on NY Jets football until Namath retired. Because of that crush, I remember Joe Kapp & the Purple People Eaters.

I couldn't be more impressed that Alan Page is an Associate Justice & that he will select the panel of judges for Franken's proper placement in the Senate.

Kind of cool that he also went to Law School and now is sitting on the MN Supreme Court.

I'd LOVE to see Page leap off the stands and make a flying tackle of Coleman's lawyer, then stand up over the concussed bastard and say (making the appropriate referee signal)

"Illegal Procedure - being a Sore Loserman, 10 yards and get the fuck out of my court!"

20. Good scenario
But Page had far too much class for that. He'll rule calmly and Coleman will still be disappointed.
