Why the stories about Obama's birth certificate will never die
By Alex Koppelman

Dec. 5, 2008 | Barack Obama can't be president: He wasn't really born in Hawaii, and the certification of live birth his campaign released is a forgery. He was born in Kenya. Or maybe Indonesia. Or, wait, maybe he was born in Hawaii -- but that doesn't matter, since he was also a British citizen at birth because of his father, and you can't be a "natural-born citizen" in that case. (But then, maybe his "father" wasn't really his father; maybe his real dad was an obscure communist poet. Or Malcolm X.)

You might think these rumors would have died off after Obama produced proof in June that he was, in fact, born in Hawaii to an American citizen, his mother, Ann, or after Hawaii state officials confirmed in October that he was born there. You might think the rumors would have died off after he was elected by a comfortable margin. Instead, they've intensified. There have been paid advertisements in the Chicago Tribune questioning the president-elect's birth certificate and eligibility, and one group is raising money to run a similar ad on television. The right-wing Web site WorldNetDaily has been reporting on the issue almost nonstop. Numerous plaintiffs have filed lawsuits in various states. And Friday, the Supreme Court's nine justices will decide whether they want to hear one of those suits, which also contends that John McCain, born in the former Panama Canal Zone, does not meet the Constitution's requirements to hold the presidency.

The people hoping this is a sign the court will agree with them and stop Obama from becoming president are almost certain to be let down. The fact that the case has gone to conference doesn't mean anything about its merits -- the court will also be deciding whether to take up a number of other cases, and the chances that the suit will actually be heard is exceedingly small. Eugene Volokh, a law professor at UCLA, has calculated that over the past eight years the court has considered in conference 842 cases that sought a stay. Only 60 of them were actually heard. Seven hundred and eighty-two were denied.

1. What a bunch of hapless losers!
I can bet this motley crue of lunatics saw no need to challenge Bush for anything in the last 8 years.

10. I'm not afraid of this getting louder
Pretending there aren't people out there willing to undermine the first legitimate president we've had in years isn't going to silence these people.
If you read further into the article, these folks intend to challenge everything that he does as president. I think they should be loudly exposed for the lunatics that they are.

talking about it on DU is somehow going to give them the impetus to keep on going with their impossible mission. If you're not afraid why should you care if they get attention or not?

8. Again, why the surprise?
These people ARE crazy and desperate to prevent a black man from being president. This will NEVER stop while Obama is in office, and those people who think these right-wing assholes will stand down now that they have been defeated are FOOLS. These are our domestic terrorists and, just like Al Quida and the rest, they will only stop when they are dead.

And what if the SCUSA does agree to their argument? There aren't enough soldiers in the entire military to stop what would happen then (and it would be doubtful very many in the military would not rise up themselves)if the election was to be stolen from our hands like that.

Me, I think we should give serious thought to impeaching Justice Thomas simply for enabling this thing to go forward, but that's just my opinion.

Of course, if they DO manage to stop O's inaugeration, then they'll be stuck with Biden, which can't be any better from their right wing point of view.

My head hurts. I refuse to even think about this stuff anymore.

9. Conspiracy cultists are the same in any political party
and they won't let go of their silly theory no matter how many times their noses are rubbed into inconvenient facts.

The facts are presented by liars. Everybody who contradicts the conspiracy is corrupt and being paid off by the opposition. The truth is really out there and only the conspiracy theorists have the brains to figure it out. If you don't agree with their wacky theories, you're part of the enemy out to destroy Mom and apple pie.

YOU WILL SEE WHEN IT'S TOO LATE!

The more they get slapped down, the more rigidly they cling to whatever wacky theory they're espousing.

When the USSC throws it out, their hopes will be far from dashed. They'll just pursue it in local courts, hoping to get a sympathetic judge and starting the whole mess all over again, all the way to the USSC.

The only thing that ever stops them is death.

Why do your presidents have to be born on American soil?

17. there was a group
that wanted to change the constitution so that AHnold could run...can't say that I'm unhappy they didn't succeed..lol

But I agree. If you can run for other offices besides the presidency without being a natural born citizen, then why not just go all the way?

18. It would require amending the Constitution
Which can be done, but it is difficult, since the state legislatures have to agree and that takes a 50 state effort.

22. Hang on to your seats...Do you really want to know the reason for all this?
Think of the movie the "Omen" and all it's sequels. Especially the one where he becomes president. They are scared to death that Obama is the AC. I'm not going to spell it out because it's absolutely ridiculous and I can't bring myself to do so. But anyways, that is why there is such a HUGE backlash against Obama. The whole "Who is Obama?" campaign scared the crap out of people. No one can stir of the fears of the ignorant faithful than one of their own (Sarah Palin). Google Obama and AC and see how many hits you get. It's ridiculous! They already believe the rapture is emminent. It's all quite commical, if you think about it. Because if you believe in all that prophetic nonsense, then you can't change the prophesy by filing lawsuits and protesting it. It was meant to be, right? Ha Ha Ha!!! Almost all bible scholars, that are not biased Christians, will tell you that the prophesies in the bible were written by men who couldn't understand why all the righteous people were suffering IN THEIR TIMES when they were following god's will so the only thing they could think of was god must have an opposing force that is making people suffer. Hence, evil was invented along with Satan. Then they built upon it with the AC. Us humans have such vivid imaginations. I feel sorry for them because they have hopelessly drowned in their religious dogma and their is no saving them. The next great big disaster we have, I 'm going to be checking to the news to see where Sarah Palin is. I'm sure she will be out on her front porch with her hands in the air saying "Here I am Lord, take me, I am ready". Hmmmm, I wonder what will be going through her tiny little brain when the "Lord" doesn't answer....lol.

23. I understand what you're saying, but by that note shouldn't they be happy that
Obama won? That means they were right, and that they will be going soon.
