A Sarah Palin Thanksgiving
A Sarah Palin Thanksgiving
November 21, 2008, 5:17 pm
By The Editorial Board

We’ve differed with Sarah Palin a great deal on substance ... But we also worry a bit about, how should we put it, the persona she has brought with her to national politics ... And then there’s this. You don’t have to be a huge animal lover to question why Governor Palin chose to be interviewed — while issuing a traditional seasonal pardon of a turkey — while turkeys were being executed in the background ...

Sarah Palin interview complete with turkey beheadings
By Christopher Poon

... In the video, while she discusses her campaign, future plans, and oil prices, a turkey farmer in the background can be seen processing and beheading turkeys. At one point, Palin mentions that she’ll probably be criticized for being there ...

Palin jokes as turkeys killed
November 23, 2008 12:30am

... in perhaps her worst faux pas yet, she floundered through questions on the economy while an employee at Triple D Farm & Hatchery, near the city of Anchorage, butchered the turkeys not lucky enough to have been granted a pardon. As Ms Palin turned her head slightly to the man shoving the live turkeys down a metal death contraption, she replied: "Oh, this was neat. I was happy to get invited to participate in this ...

<Outposts ...> Sarah Palin would have looked better hunting a turkey

Sarah Palin Responds to the Turkey Pardon Controversy

... "The <Alaska> governor did not know it was going on behind her," Palin's spokesperson tells ET of the reportedly grisly scene at Triple D Farm & Hatchery outside Wasilla. Cameras captured Palin extending the annual Thanksgiving pardon to one turkey while a farm hand slaughtered the bird's feathered friends in the background.

Palin's spokesperson tells ET the bird butchering wasn't going on when the shot was set up, and a cameraman "ignored" the governor's staff's request to remove the graphic sight once cameras were rolling.

"We're unhappy about it and the station is not happy either," Palin's rep tells ET, adding, "this was an attempt to lighten up and do something non-controversial."

11. I want to see her at Easter.
She'll probably do an interview standing in front of one of those live-actor reenactments of the Passion of Christ. She'll cheerily and perkily answer questions about her life while behind her a guy is being mock-whipped, spat on, and "nailed" to a cross.

"With a great deal of appreciation, of course, for all the support I've received, despite all the ridicule and attacks to which I was subjected during the campaign..."

(Interviewer) "Do you think the mainstream media was trying to crucify you for not being a liberal, or for being an outsider?"

Sarah: "Well, I suppose you could say that...it was very painful sometimes...sometimes the hurtful remarks would just seem to go right through you...but I knew I just had to pick up and move on. With a great deal of appreciation, of course, for everyone who cheered me on..."

2. Why is anyone suprised?
She has no regard for animal life. She shoots moose from planes. She blew the head off a bunny rabbit when she was ten.

I just wish she'd go away. For good.

5. Give me a break!
Sarah's a friggin idiot if she didn't know what was going on behind her. Her staff could have stopped the shoot or diverted the farmhand before the shoot. That guy sticking the turkeys in that thing was downright creepy, too, the way he was leering at the camera. Maybe he was thinking how she would fit in that contraption.

YUK!!

15. Agreed, Sarah Palin is a complete idiot
First off, doesn't Politics 101 teach pols like Palin to carefully pick your surroundings for PR events? So wouldn't your typical Thanksgiving turkey pardon occur with some quaint backdrop like a state park or the governor's mansion?

Second off, it appears that Sarah Palin's staff are liars because the news reports clearly indicate she was informed that her backdrop was inappropriate.

http://www.freep.com/article/20081121/NEWS15/81121015/1215

Also, I believe Countdown reported the detail that she told the cameraman "no problem."

Even if all this is wrong where's the awareness? Even if the guy isn't back there killing turkeys the backdrop remains a slaughter table covered with blood and guts.

More to the point she appears so enamored with herself. She's glowing in the spotlight, a camera in her face, filled with self-love of the 'brilliance' she's spewing. This leaves the moron oblivious to everything else.

She's a walking talking SNL skit. Straight man and punchline all rolled into one pathetic, yet hilarious bundle.

8. and this woman says she's pro-life?
There's a whole collection of pictures I've posted elsewhere of Palin with dead animals: in her office with a stuffed bear, and dead king crab, a whole animal fur of some kind around her neck, grinning inanely with dead, bloodied wolves she's shot. So what's a headless bloody turkey as a backdrop for yet another publicity stunt? Sick, sick sick woman.

9. Yeah, but if you are gonna eat turkey on Thanksgiving...
then you are participating in the brutality, no? (For the record, I have already bought my Quorn turkey packages. Best-tasting fake turkey on the market, IMO:))

16. At issue here is Sarah's bizarre psychic disconnect. I've worked on a ranch and slaughtered animals:
I considered it messy and unpleasant work, but necessary if the ranch wanted to eat meat and would never have described a trip to the abattoir as "fun" or "a nice experience"

Sarah, bless her little pointy head, carries the hypocrisy of turkey-pardoning to grand new heights by wandering in cheerfully to deliver a dreadful sentimental speech professing her love for all animals (a claim promptly exposed as fraud by her schoolgirlish eww! ick! reaction when she meets the bird she is allegedly pardoning) before the interview in which she smiles from time to time at a working slaughterer while babbling about what nice fun the whole experience is
