And the Obamamania marches on ... an article in USA Today wonders whether President-elect Barack Obama will continue the longstanding tradition of presidents who have made golf an integral part of their recreational activities:
Fourteen of the past 17 presidents of the United States have made golf a small part of the presidential landscape, with Herbert Hoover, Harry Truman and Jimmy Carter the only heads of state who never headed to the first tee. In fact, Dwight Eisenhower, often criticized by Democrats for playing too much golf while in office, had a putting green installed just a short stroll from the Oval Office in the 1950s.
Obama has shown more of a preference for basketball than golf, but anything's better than his attempts at bowling. Still, if the bug bites him and he needs to swing some sticks, all he has to do is shoot across the Potomac for a round at the Army Navy Country Club; all presidents are honorary members.
How good of a golfer is Obama? He's a lefty, for one thing, but then you already knew that. He's also got a long, looping swing with plenty of opportunities for things to go wrong; make of that symbolism what you like. . .
