McCain Gets Testy With 'Des Moines Register'
McCain Gets Testy With 'Des Moines Register'

Published: October 01, 2008 9:40 AM ET

NEW YORK John McCain, on a visit to the newspaper's office, took questions from the Des Moines Register editorial board on Tuesday and the results -- available in a series of videos -- revealed his combative side.

He bristled when accusing of running false charges against his opponent in ads, defending them as "100% accurate" and going beyond that saying in his entire career he had been wholly accurate in all matters.

McCain also replied sharply when asked about the qualifications of his running mate, declaring that he "uncategorically" believed she was fully capable, citing her years as mayor and governor -- and even at the PTA. Going well beyond poll results, he stated that the American public "overwhelmingly" embraced her.

A full report and videos are at the paper's site:

2. This was a truly frightening display of a man
that could be potentially President. Clearly he is out of touch with reality and is far from being a stable person, much less a good choice for leader of the free world. It's funny the serious decline we have seen in the quality of the Republicans running for high office.

4. This editorial was utter hogwash
I was about to post this when I saw that someone had beat me to it.

I thought the Des Moines Register was one of these mythical editorial boards that was hardhitting but fair, insightful, not condescending, honest, etc. This editorial was utter hogwash.

This wasn't an editorial at all. Rather, it was a stenographer's report of what happened at that meeting. McCain lied from start to finish, based on the so=called editorial's accoutn of the meeting and then few clips that we've seen here. And they didn't call him on it. Are these people living in a fantasy world? Are they hypnotized by this cranky old man? Are they somehow afraid of offending? Are they stupid? He lied about Obama's "sex education" legislation. He lied about not having heard any of the RW criticism of Palin. He failed to explain just how Palin is qualified. AND THEY LET HIM!

5. This is from Editor & Publisher, not the Des Moines Register. Good grief. Pay attention.

6. ...and two steps backward...
Keep goin' John, you're doin' just fine.

David Yepsen, the Des Moines Register's political columnist, just published in his blog "McCain Wins Round 1". Nice undercut for one of the last punidiots in the state who supports you. Yepsen even gave hearty approval for Palin after their convention, so now let's see what she can do.

Those of you who followed the Iowa caucus may remember Yepsen as the one who's nice but not very bright. Yea, him.

7. There are half a dozen or so more videos
of McCain's session with the Des Moines Register at their website. Audio is much better, too.
