Ugly truth why Hillary Clinton won't quit (NY Daily News)

Ugly truth why Hillary Clinton won't quit

BY THOMAS M. DeFRANK - DAILY NEWS WASHINGTON BUREAU

New York Daily News - Wednesday, May 7th 2008

While the case for Hillary Clinton to stay in the race is shakier than ever, one ugly reason for staying in could be found Tuesday amid the ruddy, sun-kissed Hoosiers who cheered her on to victory at the Indianapolis Speedway.

With Clinton posing alongside pioneering Indy speedster Sarah Fisher, there were almost no African-Americans to be seen. Many in the white, working-class crowd were simply not ready to back Barack Obama - for reasons that are disturbing.

"I'm kind of still up in the air between McCain and Hillary," said Jason Jenkins, 32, who cited information from a hoax e-mail as a reason to spurn Obama.

"I'll be honest with you. Barack scares the hell out of me,"he said. "He swore on the Koran."

Obama did manage to pull in many white voters, but still encountered similar sentiments from a man who refused to shake his hand at a diner in Greenwood, Ind.

"I can't stand him," the man said. "He's a Muslim. He's not even pro-American as far as I'm concerned."

(...)

Two separate sources in the Clinton orbit insisted Tuesday night it's now more likely Hillary will pursue her quest until the August convention in Denver - unless party leaders rise up en masse and publicly tell her it's time to stop. The math, after all, remains solidly in Obama's favor.

"I can think of no reason why it would not go to the convention now," one top Hillary Democrat predicted. "Why should she get out?"

Some insiders still want to make sure no new bombshells will explode around the freshman Illinois senator.

"He could slip and stumble some more, her polls could continue to be strong, and once the party decides what to do with Florida and Michigan, his lead in the popular vote will be very narrow," an insider said.

1. "his lead in the popular vote will be very narrow," an insider said.
But still a lead.

And how the hell do people get off insulting BO as both a Muslim and a member of a radical Christian congregation?

7. There's More...
Hillary Clinton is tearing the party to shreds, but it doesn't stop there:

http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080506/AUTO01/805060449

Obama has to win Ohio and Pennsylvania, because Florida is already gone. McCain is significantly ahead there.

So, this dude goes on the air in the Indianapolis and starts shitting all over Ford Motor Company. Does have any idea how many people in SE Michigan and NE Ohio and NW Pennsylvania either work for Ford or one of Ford's suppliers?

We're setting up a scenario in which the Democrats lose forty states in November.

I swear, he's another Dukakis.

23. So we're supposed to believe that Detroit's focus on SUVs and large trucks ...
... was a GOOD strategic decision? How deep in the sand does a candidate need to stick their head, then, to be acceptable to the general population? How much smoke, approximately, need they blow up the collective ass of the American people?

26. It Was...
...a shitty decision, and Bill Ford knew it but they decided to take the path of least resistance.

What we need are true Honda and Toyota killers. We can do it.

The new Malibu is close. It's a nice car. I've heard similar accolades for the Ford Fusion.

...Obama isn't telling the truth, but I am saying he'll pay a significant price for it if he's trying to carry Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania.

32. Perhaps... depending on how it's framed ...
... as being the fault of poor management choices or slacker workers. Obama seems to be saying what many voters in those states would agree with, our corporations have been mismanaged for short-term profits, at the expense of long-term viability and worker employment security.

is not assembled in the USA. Neither is the new Ford Focus. I have a japanese name that IS built in the USA. Most Chevrolets are too but nowhere as good a car yet.

... but their unabashed ignorance. (though, I suppose, the difference in Obama's skin color facilitates their miseducation)

3. Pandering to a false belief
Edited on Wed May-07-08 10:09 AM by Goodnevil
will make it become a false reality. If we, as a party, encourage Hillary to keep running on the belief that some people will question Obama's patriotism and religion (some folks should be asking themselves why they wouldn't want to vote for a Muslim even if he were one), we will merely propogate this false belief throughout the media and society.

Stop it now before it gets anymore out of hand, because you know that McCain will bring it up. All the white, protestant anti-muslim Americans will be worked up into a white trash frenzy that will shake our democracy apart.

8. Christ! These people are stuck on stupid!
I propose a new test for voting, one that will be much better than the poll tax/picture ID test: anyone who says Obama is a Muslim or Clinton is a lesbian or McCain is a liberal is just too stupid and/or misinformed to be able to cast a ballot.

Just think of the responsible government we might achieve if the bovine were sent back to the pasture to chew their cuds in peace and quiet while the government got chosen by people who knew what they were talking about.

Oh, I know, that's horribly elitist of me, to suggest that citizens with the terrible disability of being nitwits be deprived of their civil right to choose their own government, but I can dream, can't I?

28. universal suffrage
People lost their lives in the battle to win the right to vote - for all people.

Calling people "bovine" and "nitwits" is arrogant and self-righteous, not to mention contrary to the principles and ideals of the party.

"Just think of the responsible government we might achieve if the bovine were sent back to the pasture to chew their cuds in peace and quiet while the government got chosen by people who knew what they were talking about?"

No, I am thinking about the aristocracy and tyranny "we might achieve" that way. Your "dream" is a nightmare.

Edited on Wed May-07-08 10:19 AM by Triana
and cause Dems to lose the election. She KNOWS if it goes to convention, Dems LOSE. She wants to keep the mud flinging all the way until Denver and distract Obama from the nemesis he NEEDS to be fighting: McCain

Hillary is a TOOL of the Republican Party.

She won't quit because her JOB is to make sure Republicans win in November. Operation Chaos is just the tip of that iceberg.

"Obama is a Muslim! He swore on the Koran!" Good Heavens. These people have obviously read too much Hillary / Repug propaganda. If you told them the sky is purple with yellow polkadots they'd believe that too.

Hillary has a job to do - appointed to her by Republicans (which Hillary is) - make Obama LOSE in November.

I think there should be NO DOUBT about that by now.

Triana, I fear you may be right.

About two months ago I was perusing a seriously right wing racist website somebody had shown me. The members on that forum were posting that 'there's no reason to worry about Obama.' They said the power structure in control (something called Bilderberg?) would 'not allow a black man at the control panel of the USA, and Hillary and Bill will make sure.' I do not know what a Bilderberg group is but they said Bill Clinton is a member.
