Iowa State Daily: "We endorse Sen. Barack Obama"
From the Iowa State Daily

EDITORIAL: Daily endorsement: Obama for Democrats

Issue date: 12/4/07 Section: Opinion

We endorse Sen. Barack Obama for the 2008 presidential Democratic Party nomination.

In Obama, we have a candidate who has more to offer than a strategic plan or policy that will change America for the better. What Obama brings above all else is a renewed sense of hope. The past seven years have caused our hope for a better world, a better America, to waver. We have lost a national direction, and Obama can restore that.

But his campaign isn't based on hope alone. Obama has a realistic plan to get the troops out of Iraq, instead of some poorly thought out cut-and-run debacle; he has a commitment to making the U.S. energy independent, which would solve several of our Iraq problems anyway; he takes the changes occurring in our environment seriously and would put measures in place to reduce our impact; and his universal health insurance plan is as realistic as anyone else's.

And unlike some of his counterparts, Obama isn't anchoring himself on a one-issue platform. What needs addressed in America isn't just the war in Iraq; it isn't just health care; and it isn't just that - in the Democrats' view - Bush and his cronies need to be removed from power. Obama grasps the bigger picture.

1. Well, if winning the entire county fails...
...Obama can always settle for President of Iowa. They LOVE him there.

2. Awesome logic! ... Not.
So if Obama wins Iowa it's because Iowans are out of touch with mainstream America?

This seems to be the wacko point you are trying to make.

PS - I guess "entire county" should be "entire country", or at least more delegates than Hillary.

4. You misunderstand me...I LIKE Obama.
But Iowa is one of the few places in the country where Obama seems to have an edge over Hillary Clinton. Even if he wins there, there's no guarantee that he'll come out on top in the other State primaries.

I guess I was being flippant.

6. I think everything will change after Iowa
The Iowa caucuses are happening right at the end of the Christmas holidays.

People will just be just waking up to the fact that 2008 is finally here.

Whichever candidate wins Iowa will get a major boost to their campaign.

Obama has the organisation and the funds to take full advantage.

I kind of prefer Biden, but I am not sure that he can go all the way.

Biden needs some kind of a Christmas miracle in Iowa and/or New Hampshire.

Otherwise Obama is the only candidate who could stand in Hillary's way.

If Edwards wins Iowa he will also be an important factor thru Feb 5th.

I am real curious to watch what will happen in Iowa on January 3rd.

3. Thanks for the great news, Apollo 11
Isn't that the first endorsement of a paper for a candidate of either party in Iowa?

Obama leads!

5. In fact Biden already has one in the bag
A paper called the Storm Lake Times already endorsed Biden back in October.

Quite an influential endorsement if you are one of the 20,000 inhabitants of Buena Vista County!

Here is the latest editorial from the Storm Lake Times:

Clinton shooting at herself

Hillary Clinton reinforces doubts among Iowa Democrats when she attacks her main rival, Barack Obama — that she is cold, if not nasty. Clinton has stepped up the intensity of her attacks as Obama has taken a slim lead in the latest Iowa Poll by The Des Moines Sunday Register. The latest, and silliest, attack launched late last week was that Obama told his teacher in kindergarten that he wanted to be president someday — proof that the boy was born blind with ambition.

Clinton also has said that Obama has “character issues” because he took money from lobbyists. Obama’s skirmishes with money, of course, cannot compare with the book on Clinton and her cattle-trading prowess, the whole Whitewater mess and on and on.

Clinton reminds Democrats in her attacks what Republicans will dredge up in the fall. It will make the Swift Boating of John Kerry look like child’s play. In her quest to show she’s tough, Clinton is doing herself in with Iowans who want straight answers and somewhat courteous discourse.

If you really want clear answers, the preferred candidate is Joe Biden. We watched him on Iowa Public Television’s Iowa Press program over the weekend and again were awed by his command of foreign affairs. Check him out at www.iptv.org

My dream ticket for 2008 is BIDEN-OBAMA. So I am counting on a Christmas miracle! B-)

I like Obama so much that I want him on the ticket in 2008, 2012, 2016 and 2020 !! :patriot:
