MOMBASA, Kenya (Reuters) - Bethan, 56, lives in southern England on the same street as best friend Allie, 64.

They are on their first holiday to Kenya, a country they say is "just full of big young boys who like us older girls."

Hard figures are difficult to come by, but local people on the coast estimate that as many as one in five single women visiting from rich countries are in search of sex.

Allie and Bethan -- who both declined to give their full names -- said they planned to spend a whole month touring Kenya's palm-fringed beaches. They would do well to avoid the country's tourism officials.

Paid sex is something that few of us think about as a "norm" but until recent history, nearly every marriage was the quintessential door to the whorehouse. Men have been luring women with money, comfort, shelter, etc. since the beginning of time. Women have been exchanging sex for those commodities since the beginning of time. It's funny that now that women can finally have some money, that it's sensational that the tables are turned.

Disease and violence seem like far more fearsome considerations to me but men have been using prostitutes and spreading disease forever, so how does this differ for those women who choose to go where they can "Get it cheap". The double standards are hilarious and sad all at the same time. Of course protection and careful screening would seem imperative whether you're boinking a male prostitute or a woman.

I've only been with one Brit and seen numerous brits on tv,but so many of them seem like repressed pussy's. Maybe these women just want a man that has enough primal urges to treat sex the way it should be treated, as a HUMAN need with passion, vigor, enthusiasm, creativity, and especially energy. Forget the rules and do what the body and soul have craved from before we were even human. Go for it grannies!!

6. I'm neutral on this-they are taking risks and even though

the men are considerably younger than these women, it doesn't appear (at least from this report) that the men are in their early teens or worse, younger - there seems to be informed consent on both parts to, 'exploit each other' - unsavory? yes, but humans have a great tendency for exploitation in a variety of relationships by degrees from garden variety dysfuntion to extremely dangerous situations no matter what age, race, religion, culture.

money. This is happening in the Carribean too ("milk bottles" is what the women are called) ... rather than working out and eating right to stay attractive its easier for some women to just pay-off some poor guy in a third-world country.

There's also some racist attitudes in this in that many of these women think 'I maybe broken down and pathetic, but I'm still better because they're Black.'

Superficial today, are we?

I know plenty of attractive (slender or otherwise) women over forty who can't even get a glance from men their own age, especially not from the men who have "let themselves go" but think they are entitled to a thirty-year-old aerobics instructor.

Mostly Roseanne/Kathy Bates types ... I know plenty of attractive women over forty who kept in good (not referring to aerobics instructors) shape and get plenty of action without paying for it.

I haven't seen them. But no matter what they look like (and you don't know WHY they look like what they look like), they're still human beings and worthy of attention from someone who is wise enough to look beyond the outward appearance and thinks of complete human beings with minds and hearts instead of just "getting plenty of action without paying for it."

These women are not going to get that kind of genuine love from a young guy rented by the day, only the illusion, but I understand the impulse, even if I wouldn't do that myself.

I also know that their male equivalents expect admiration from younger, more attractive women, and when that doesn't happen, they gripe about "radical feminists" and head for the Philippines or Russia to find a young woman who is in desperate financial straits and wants a ticket to the West.
