Call us the Unhappy States of America...

A year before voting, a nation of discontent

Divided by the war and anxious about the future, Americans want some fixes
By Susan Page
USA TODAY

Call us the Unhappy States of America.

One year before Election Day 2008, most Americans are dismayed by the country's direction, pessimistic about the Iraq war and anxious about the economy. Two of three disapprove of the job President Bush is doing. Nearly a year after Democrats took control of Congress, three of four Americans say it isn't achieving much, either.

In all, 72% of those surveyed in a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll taken Oct. 12-14 say they are dissatisfied with how things are going in the USA while just 26% are satisfied. Not since April have even one-third of Americans been happy with the country's course, the longest national funk in 15 years.

"Don't get me wrong, America's a great country," says Lori Jones, 46, a medical assistant in Phoenix. But she worries about her family's finances and prospects for the next generation. "I think we've somehow lost our way."

1. The last line says it all, "I think we;ve somehow lost our way" . I think we all
know how we lost our way, Reagan and Nixons neo cons and the republican fear tactics of everything under the sun. People like Lori Jones bought the lie and didn't care who got screwed just so long as she got hers. Now its time for the people like Lori Jone's to have a look see at what they caused and they play being ignorant about the mess they created by saying somehow we lost our way. Yeah right, we warned them there was a price to pay and sooner or latter they would be hit, and what did we get, the gay fear, the muslum fear, the mexican fear, the democratic fear.

3. We are as unhappy as any other nation of totalitarian subjects
Further exacerbating the problem is that most of us were born free, and even for most who cannot or will not, even at this late date, see what is happening, they FEEL it. Even if they cannoit identify the source of their dismay. For it is the ocean in which we all swim, so to speak.

Now an ocean of lies, misinformation, disinformation, and well-constructed propaganda. It is the ocean that the Chinese Subjects swim in, and Putin's subject in Russia. Powerless, hapless, helpless, and fed a dsily dose of bullshit by State Media as to insult the intelligence of a third-grader.

However, as all tyrants know, denial and apathy cancel any awareness of this out.

But the pot continues to boil, which is probably what the Bushies want anyway. The sooner it does boil over, the sooner the Bushies can implement their Final Solutions to the Liberal Problem.

4. We still have that embedded recording playing, don't we...
"Don't get me wrong, America's a great country," says Lori Jones, 46, a medical assistant in Phoenix.

The sad reality is that we are not a great country anymore. We are but a shell of what we were (or claimed to be). The outside still sparkly red, white and blue, and the inside a mass of corruption, fear, totalitarianism, and ugliness.
