1. Really good article
I like the ending where he states:

What puzzles me is how otherwise intelligent Americans can be so devoid of pride and cunning as to let themselves be duped again and again into admiring the emperor's clothes. They're not even new anymore.

This has puzzled me for a long time! How many times can he get away with lying so many times without his supporters calling him on it? Maybe they really are not "otherwise intelligent Americans"? Maybe they are all really just dittoheads who believe everything they hear on radio talk shows and believe everything they read in most a paragraph or two of newspaper articles without any curiosity (like Dubya?)

2. Please read....
Paul Waldman's new book called, Fraud. In it he explains that Bush and his thugs can continue lying at free will because the media and the congress has decided that they are not going to hold him accountable for anything Bush says or does. So why should he stop lying?

3. "How Many Times"
How many times did Hitler covince the German people that what he was
doing was for their survival. How many times was Mussolini able to convince the Italian people that they were the descendants of the Romans, and were required to carry on the Roman tradition of conquest.

How many times were the American people convinced that the Indians had to be eliminated in order for this country to realize its full
potential, that they were nothing more then babarians with no love for God.

What did it take for 37 state legislatures to pass laws that discriminate against one group of people, to make them second class
citizens.

You and others give too much credit to the "intelligent Americans". The majority are scared little cowards who choose to believe that little brown men are going to be flying jets into buildings, and doing
all they can to destroy Amerika. Others are just bigots and now they
can put their view points out in public without being blasted for their beliefs.

Unfortunately in the US there is only a small part of the population
that can be considered intelligent, the down side is that very few in
the majority are willing to listen to what they have to say.

By passing laws that discriminate against one section of the population, and by the fact that the American people are allowing it
to happen, only adds evidence that this country is now on the path taken by Germany.

Remember Germany passed laws saying that Jews could not marry non-Jews, that they could only be employed in jobs that could not be done
by non-Jews. Even their military service during WWI wasn't enough for
them to be considered good Germans.

So keep an eye out for the signs, one has already been posted, others
I fear are going to start going up if Bush is elected this time.

5. Belief
When people want to believe they block out facts contradicting their belief. It's really that simple.

4. Some comments from those who support Bush
From the margin next Williams' column:

"HURRY NOVEMBER reelect Bush and shut up the LEFT" Because that's what you do when you know you're wrong and don't care: You stifle dissent.

"If you say he's lying, prove it. That's more than any of Bush's accusers have bothered to do. I'm not a fan of everything Bush has done, especially his failure to shrink government, but Democrats wouldn't be any better." Does anyone understand the first two sentences of this?

"Don Williams lied when he said Powel knew the British intelligence was wrong. The BBC thought the intelligence was wrong. Blair stands by the intelligence and so does the British government. Apparently Don doesn't watch FOX News." <emphasis added> LOL. What was your first clue?!

7. Interesting poll and comments
seems that more folks agree with the columnist than disagree.
