Lieberman Forgets Whom He Serves First

It seems that Sen. Joseph Lieberman has a serious case of color blindness — he can't distinguish a field of 50 white stars on a blue background from a single blue star on a white background. He also seems to concurrently suffer from a loss of memory. He forgets that he “represents” the state of Connecticut in the U.S. Senate, not the state of Israel.

When questioning Gen. David Petraeus during the hearing of the Armed Services Committee, Sen. Lieberman had the gall to ask the general whether he believed the disaster in Iraq might be mitigated by invading Iran. Specifically, the senator asked the general if the time had come for the U.S. Congress to pass legislation that would give Gen. Petraeus the authority to take troops into Iran. In other words, he proposed the beginning of a new war, no doubt largely to appease the neocon hawks here and their friends in Israel.

The general was visibly taken aback by this totally inappropriate question. Sen. Lieberman should be ashamed of himself for so totally forgetting that his primary responsibility is to represent the people of Connecticut in the U.S. Senate while supporting the national security interests of the United States.

The notion that only Jews are Semitic is sort of a convenient fiction and complicated by the fact that antisemitism is essentially anti-Jewish. Arabs are generally Semitic as well. The Iranian people however, are by and large Persian, which is a different ethnic group all together.
