Limbaugh Strikes Blow He Can't Take
A good editorial on the hypocrisy that is limpballs.

In the movie "The Last Samurai," the war-hardened American hero is captured by Japanese rebels and is forced to kneel helplessly, his hands tied behind his back, before an enemy samurai. As a test of courage, the samurai swings a sword at the captive's neck, as if to lop his head off, but the man does not flinch.

The character -- Nathan Algren as played by Tom Cruise -- has lived by the sword and is prepared to die by it as well. He is a warrior true to the code. If he gives no quarter, he also asks no quarter.

Rush Limbaugh is no Nathan Algren.

For years, Limbaugh has preached the importance of personal responsibility: Don't rely on others; don't blame others if you fail. His own success he attributes to hard work and unparalleled genius, what he calls "talent on loan from God." Limbaugh has been particularly hard -- and often with good reason -- on those who have been caught in crime or corruption yet claim to be victims of discrimination.

didn't "defeat" him....by his own actions he defeated himself.

of hate-email he is about to receive. Bill Press wrote a similar op-ed on Pigboy and said he really pissed off the dittoheads.

How pathetic that Rush wants to use Lynch's military medical records to scare women into not serving with men. He claimed that she was hung naked upside down by the evil Iraqi doctors and nurses. Probably just a sick fantasy of his. That man is perverted.

4. Confessions of a moderate
I am an independent and have considered myself a moderate. I have learned to watch what I say on here in order not to be flamed. However; my views have been changing starting with the Enron debacle and the obvious good old boy club that seems to be prevalent in the Republican Party. I have listened to Rush and sometimes have agreed with him on issues. However he has lost ALL credibility and yet many conservatives defend him. I listened to him the other day and was appalled at the arrogance and hypocrisy. I am a disillusioned ex-Bush voter who is not at all happy with the lies about Iraq.

I have been on this site now for 2 weeks and have enjoyed most of the discussions. I do not agree with some of the wacky conspiracy posts but I have to admit that there are many interesting and challenging posts that are making me think.

Here is my question to the board. Is there room for a guy like me on this board or is this a board for just core liberals. For what it is worth, I have been keeping a close eye on the Dean campaign not because of Dean himself so much, but for what his campaign represents. If posters like me are not wanted I can understand that and try to to find another place to discuss political issues and continue to lurk. I welcome your input.

DU has folks of all different persuasions. I encourage you to take a good look at Wesley Clark as well as Dean though. Welcome to DU.

6.  I, for one, welcome you here...
Anyone who can carry on a civil discussion is welcomed by me, but I am only speaking for myself. There are certainly those on DU who will flame anyone who ever admits to even THINKING about voting for Bush.

I have a pet theorem, Tekriter's Postulate, which states that "any large group of people will have its share of jerks and morons".

What we do get her occaisionally are disruptors from the right wing who troll around trying to start an argument, and they usually get it.

Everything in your post says to me that you are a person who does his or her own thinking, and there are not nearly enough of them around.

7. There's room for you.
You may find you'll need to avoid certain discussions. I know I need to. But you should find plenty to keep you occupied. Plus, we all benefit from a diversity of ideas.

Personally, I try to stay away from the worst of the flame bait posts, and try not to get into a pissing contest with anyone. When in doubt, don't post is my personal motto.

8. Been there. Come on in.
Remember that old song from the 50’s…Kingston Trio's "Merry Minuet"...

They're rioting in Africa.
They're starving in Spain.
There's hurricanes in Florida
And Texas needs rain.

The whole world is festering with unhappy souls. The French hate the Germans. The Germans hate the Poles. Italians hate Yugoslavs. South Africans hate the Dutch… and I don't like anybody very much
!

You don't have to agree with anything. Say anything you want. Just make your case and be able to defend it. I was at a dinner party New Year's Eve and day. A third of the guests at the dinner table were Republicans and we had discussions, not arguments. (That may have been because they, like you, are starting to have their doubts about Georgie!!! Two of them were in finance and when I asked about deficits, they could barely speak. Just shook thier heads. They knew. In fact, it was kind of interesting to hear what they did know. I don't think Rove can count on them next November.)

As for "...the wacky conspiracy posts", demand proof. One nice thing about the site is they demand links to prove a point. If you don't, someone will notice and ping you. Have more manners than someone else and you’ll come out ahead. At least you’ll get my vote!

9. thanks
Thanks for the input and the advice.

I liked the story about the dinner conversations with the republicans who could not defend the deficits. I can no longer defend them either. Or the war, or the lies about the war, or his inability to articulate without embarrasing us, or his Vice President who is the President of the good old boy club.

Consider me part of the club that is democracy in action. I believe there is still hope for our country and am rooting for one of the democrats to step up and lead in a way that makes it clear to all. As of now the jury is still out on that issue.

12. you sound OK to me, Capablanca
stick around; I am impressed with Bush voters who can admit they were wrong. Now Capablanca, could you give me your opinion on WHY it is that you can clearly see what SO MANY OTHERS cannot? Thanks.

:hi:

14. Thinking Independently
For some reason I have never liked "group think" mentality. I am part of groups and believe it is beneficial to operate as a good member of a team. However; I stop short of letting others tell me what to think. This is one reason why I have grown to dislike the Liebaugh show. He distorts facts and uses ridicule of people to make his point. I know it is supposed to be entertainment but I am not entertained.

To see the "light" so to speak about Bush is not hard. Where are the WMD? The use 9/11 for political gain has been VERY transparent. The symbol of a civilian president in military garb was especially distasteful. I am not smart because I can see these things. Actually I wonder why I did not see them before.

Had Gore not been so goofy in the debates we would not even be having this discussion. Dean, Clark, Gebhart, or even Kerry could fill the bill. Which one can win? Which one can lead? Which one represents true reform? These are the questions I am asking now.

It looks to me like Dean or Clark. I can see myself voting for any of these 4. There needs to be a shake up in the way things are done in Washington. Which one can get this done and stand up to the powers to be? When I ask that it is Dean or Clark hands down.

15. I'm leaning towards Clark
I can see the corporate press absolutely destroying anyone from the northeast, ya know? But certainly I will support any Democratic candidate because I'm very disturbed with what Bush Inc. is doing with America.

13. I was in your shoes a year or so ago.
I've found this forum to be fairly accepting of other viewpoints as long as they are calmly reasoned and respectful. Particularly respectful of the fact that this is an openly declared liberal zone, and has every right to ask me to take my views elsewhere, should I become disruptive.

I've seen several people get banned. From what I saw they weren't banned for their viewpoints as much as for their belligerance. A couple were actually VERY left in their opinions.

So, within it's very clearly stated bounds, I've found this to be a comfortable place for discussions.

10. I like
how he says that Dems are trying him in the court of public opinon and the court of law.

Should he not be tried in the court of law or is he above that 'cause he's a multimillionaire?
