Religious Arrogance the Greatest Blindness
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 08:53 PM by usregimechange
Naomi Hutchison (Globe, June 5th) objects to the Iraq war because the people our soldiers are now attempting to protect are “people who deny the name of Jesus Christ.” I couldn’t agree more with the opposition to the war and at the same time couldn’t disagree more with her rationale.

There are plenty of good reasons to oppose the war in Iraq (the increase in world terrorism, Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, etc). But, to suggest that people do not deserve the consideration and assistance that others may deserve due to their beliefs about religion, is the opposite of what Jesus promoted.

Jesus, as I read of him, did a lot of work with people who had not accepted him and a great many things. Such people were blinded, for example, by their own greed and negativism. Yet nothing impairs sight more than thinking of yourself as superior to others based on your religion. The world has not known a greater blindness than this.

1. You know what's interesting and sad and someone should let
this woman know.

Before * invaded Iraq...there was a sizable Christian population. They were allowed to worship when Saddam was there.

When Saddam was removed they were slaughtered and if they are still there will be slaughtered.

Someone needs to ask her why her glorious * leader didn't try to save the Cristians...

Pathetic sheep...

3. It seems that so many folks have enormous amounts of trouble
expressing themselves in a language that doesn't have to reveal or invoke their own point of view, especially when that point of view is accepted without much analysis or research.

When I view the not so historical history in the bible, it tells me of a dynamic panorama that shows people in their narrow minded, self justifying nastiness and then their ability to discover an inner streak of the real humanity, as in the christ story. That same volume goes on to show that, as we are all too painfully aware, the driven, manipulating individuals in society will gladly seize upon even the kindest, most enlightening and inspiring elements of humanity and use them for self aggrandizement and the destruction of a responsible, aware community.

Invoking Jesus as a tool to lend authority and justification for one's beliefs is a sad commentary on one's lack of self knowledge.

4. She doesn't even know her own faith.
Jesus himself was said to have healed the son of the Roman centurion - a pagan. In fact, one of the biggest beefs the Pharisees had with Jesus was his consorting with gentiles. She's an idiot. Same old story.

5. Jesus is a prophet in Islam
sez my muslim colleague. So they do believe in Jesus. Naomi should read the Koran before criticising it. She should maybe read up on the "people's history" before talking on that too.
