Rove: Time for GOP to be bold
Republican strategist talks about challenges

By Lee Wolverton

More than 900 miles stretch between the White House and Punta Gorda, but the distance between the two points must have felt like light years for Karl Rove.

The Republican strategist referred to by detractors as President Bush's brain spoke Saturday before several hundred GOP supporters at Benedetto's Steakhouse and Martini Bar at the Charlotte County Republican Party's Lincoln-Reagan Dinner, his party talking points on cutting taxes and holding the line in Iraq punctuated by bursts of applause.

Left behind was the swirling scandal over the firings of eight U.S. attorneys, the American malaise over the war and lingering unease within the party in the wake of Democratic victories in the House and Senate in the fall elections.

~snip~

"The troops do not need General Pelosi to micromanage the war from Capital Hill," he said of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and efforts to cut funding for Iraq. The line drew cheers.Outside the banquet room, however, shadows lingered over a party stung not only of an unpopular war but also by ethics lapses. State Republican Chairman James Greer cited as example the fall of former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley, who resigned from the House in October amid allegations he sent sexually explicit e-mails to teenage boys.

"We have significant challenges to overcome in 2008," Greer said. "We need to start acting like Republicans again. We're the party that stands for ethics and integrity. We need to act like it. We have to get our ship back on course."

1. GOP stands for ethics and integrity?

That is so funny. Significant challenges to overcome? Like climbing Mount Everest without snowshoes or a compass. The Republicans need to be tossed out in the garbage.

4. He is, without a doubt
one of the most loathsome little toads to emerge in the Bush administration. He makes me feel all sick, and nauseous. I can't think of a more unappealing specimen of the human race. I gag when I see him. How can anyone bear to be within several miles of this repulsive creature?

8. Why are taxpayers paying his salary?
His only function is to keep the thieves called Republics in power. He does nothing else but work at political strategy. Why does America have to foot the bill of an overpriced political consultant?

10. These events used to be called
"Lincoln Day Dinners"

Now they slipped in the name of the "Great Communicator"! How long before the name of Lincoln is dropped altogether?

12. Rove's fate....
In a just world, he would be strung up upside down by his ankles and stoned to death by an angry riot of SICK AND TIRED AMERICANS on the Washington Green at high noon.

It should be carried live on all the major news shows.

There may be a few "ethically-challenged" aspects to my proposal, but with the CRIMES AGAINST THE WORLD this guy has executed, he deserves the most vile fate a human being could suffer. His worst fears would be discovered and then IMPOSED ON HIM for the rest of his natural life.
