Toy magnets kill young boy - Indictment of Consumer Product Safety Commission
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/specials/chi-safety-magnets1-story,1,4110861.story?coll=chi-news-hed

Sharon Grigsby pleaded with the operator at the federal safety hot line. A popular new toy, Magnetix, nearly killed one of her preschoolers. Please do something, Grigsby remembers urging.

When the plastic building sets broke, she told the operator, they shed powerful magnets inside her northern Indiana preschool. Grigsby didn't see the loose magnets, not much bigger than baby aspirin.

But one of her 5-year-old students did. He found some and swallowed them. The extraordinarily strong magnets connected in the boy's digestive tract, squeezed the folds of his intestines and tore holes through his bowels. Only emergency surgery saved his life.

If this product isn't recalled, Grigsby remembers warning, children will die.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission responded with a form letter.

1. The boy who died was from the Seattle area.
This has been in the news here for more than a year. This non-response from the Consumer Product Safety Commission is disgraceful.

2. More to thank Saint Ronnie for ...
"The Reagan administration gutted the CPSC in the early 1980s, less than a decade after its inception. Bipartisan neglect since then has left the agency with fewer than half the number of employees it had in 1980—deeper cuts than in any other federal health and safety regulator."

4. Saint Ronnie and co. purposively destroy agency after agency just so
something like this will happen and then they can point it out and say, "See, government doesn't work!"

5. It gets worse
Our Fearless Leader has appointed Michael Baroody - executive Vice President of the National Association of Manufacturers - to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission. How many more children will die before we get rid of these criminals?

"President Bush has nominated Michael Baroody -- one of Corporate America's leading anti-consumer henchmen -- to head the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC) -- our top government agency protecting millions of Americans from injury and death from unsafe products"

7. Why do you people hate Amurika?

See, the manufacturers need to make lots and lots of money that they will turn around and invest in hit men and hookers and foreign interests. Worrying about little American kids is not their problem. Parents should look after their own kids and KNOW when toys are unsafe. It isn't the maker of the dangerous toy who is negligent, but the parents who bought the toy or who allowed their children to play with it.

Why do you want to interfere with the manufacturers' right to make lots of money no matter who gets hurt? They have earned that right - to suffer no consequences if they do significant harm - because they spent bejillions to help get Bush and Cheney and a host of other Corporate-Ass-Kissing Republicans in office. Dammit, don't screw up their plans just because of your jealousy and your kid-hugging sissy ways.

Some kids will die in the making of manufacturers' fortunes. Tough.

Rich people are simply more "moral" and that's a fact. They deserve to kill a few people along the way and all of you who are in a twit over this need to grow up.

Money trumps every fucking thing.

:sarcasm:
