Why didn't he go down fighting?

"I didn't think Saddam Hussein would be captured like this," said one New Yorker who gloated about America's mighty power. Still some want Saddam brought to the US to stand trial like the ex-dictator of Panama, Manuel Noreiga, who was captured by US forces during George Bush Senior's presidency, were tried and sentenced to life. But there are others who believe that US would be better off if Saddam tried in Iraq in an Iraqi court; some want him to go to the international court at the Hague.
The Democratic Party which had decided to draw battle lines against President Bush and his policy of attacking Iraq to oust the Iraqi leader from power for their 2004 presidential campaign found themselves in a tricky situation. The capture of Saddam Hussein has buoyed President Bush's ratings, with many speculating victory for him in the next elections.
