Frightening scenario of what's to come (US attacks Syria & Iran)
John Stanton has written an article for Counterpunch on what he sees as a likely scenario for November 2004. He feels that while Bush will lose the popular election, he most certainly will win the electoral college and once again be in the driver's seat for 4 more years.

Stanton paints a horrific picture of what's to come. Once Bush is back in the White House, he will move quickly to form a police state. Individual rights will be further eradicated. The middle and lower class will be financially strapped, while the wealthy will become wealthier still. It will become very dangerous to march in protests, something that we've taken for granted.

The draft will be quickly reinstated. Bush's agenda is WAR and more war. By December of 2004, US troops will be moving in to attack Syria. It will be defeated in 10 working days. At the same time, the US will move into Iran and attack. Stanton estimates that within 60 days, Iran will become subjugated.

At the same time that it is invading Syria and Iran, the US will move in to North Korea and attack.

Very scary scenarios. More...

4. Bush won't get his war and more war.
He'll get terrified Republicans repudiating they ever so much as knew him.

But, let him try.

7. Let's hope so, Aquart.

This next year may be the most severe trial the Americans have ever faced. I hope that a majority will stand up to him and his criminal thugs and put a stop to this.

I think you're right (NJ Cher) that a lot of people will resist the draft. They are working on contingency plans, as we speak. They are preparing for the worst scenario.

So it may be tougher than they thought to turn all their plans into reality.

5. yeah, you and what army?
Even if the electoral college part of the nightmare were to come true, there would still be huge resistance to the draft being reinstituted. The military families already have their backs up over being deployed indefinitely. The U.S. military is stretched to the max with just this operation in Iraq. I see no way these military objectives could be met.

Combine the already stiff resistance in Iraq with that report that was published in the Washington Post that assessed why the U.S. army is having such a dangerous time. Stanton's scenario does not really add up.

Still, it is a valuable exercise to paint a worst case scenario.

8. How can Bush afford all that war?
he's not asking his rich friends to pay for it, and the middle class will get sick of it, esp when it's their sons and daughters who will also be expected to fight...and since we already have troops all over the place, I don't see any other way he can have enough troops...

and if they dollar continues to fall, we may not be able to afford oil to make those wars, you know?

obviously Bush can run greater deficits, but we're already at the rate at which other nations have been "red lined."

I'm not saying Bush wouldn't want to do this...and I could even see him invading another country in order to win another election, just like he did at for the mid-terms.

but I also think many Americans are aware of his lies now, which led to the war in Iraq, and, Fox news watchers aside, more people in this country will need more evidence of a real threat, again, esp. if the reality of a draft gets through to them.

I don't think any other nations are going to make it easier for us to invade anyone else, either, because they have to answer to their populations, and since Bush is the most hated American president ever, other nations have no need to bail out his ass, and the deficit makes us too economically weak to do much more than bluster (for the local crowd's applause, while Baker tries to make the real deals out of the hearing of the Fox news groupies.

but then again, this administration has continually demonstrated that just when you think they can't be any more stupid, any more dangerous to the well being of this nation...well, there they go again...
