Have We All Been Played?

December 19, 2006"I have a sickening feeling that we, that is, all who have been been outraged at the Bush administration's approach to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, have all been played---and played brilliantly. Bush, Cheney, Wolfowitz and Rummy and their unsophisticated, ham-handed antics may have turned out to be the canny maneuvering of the ultimate neocon con, for we are now poised to militarily engage our old ally/enemy---Iran---on irrefutably provocative grounds: its leader hates Israel and considers the Holocaust a hoax; it has asserted its intention to become a nuclear player; it seeks to remonstrate the West for its sins; it is a charter member of the Axis of Evil.
The quagmire that Iraq has become (indeed it seems, had to become) and the fancy footwork that led us there was a classic jujitsu style move that used our revulsion against such brutally obvious tactics against ourselves, creating a brilliant diversion and forcing us into playing out the neocon wet dream: war with Iran and the opportunity to secure once and for all domain over the middle east's holy petroleum and therefore (dare I say it?) The World (cue the "James Bond" theme music). But if one looks at it, it resembles a game of three dimensional chess. Only, we didn't even know we were playing it. And now we are in a check mate position. What will be our move? It had better be a doozy.
The neocons are assembling the scenario that they laid out in 2001: the axis of evil. We've "done" Iraq (and poorly, but since this is a fail safe plan it does not matter) and now it's Iran and North Korea's turn.
