Again: Iraq solution is sooooo simple!
But of course no one wants to mention it, especially not Baker, Hamilton and Co.

Iraq is all about Corporate Takeover. Troops are there to protect the corporations after reconstruction was privatized by Paul Bremer.

Today, I found I am not the only voice in the wilderness. Yay!

Thank you Antonia Juhasz at Tom Paine.com!

The American companies were hired instead of Iraqi companies that had successfully rebuilt Iraq after the previous U.S. invasion. And, because the Americans did not have to hire Iraqis, many imported foreign workers instead. The Iraqis were of course well aware that American firms had received billions of dollars for reconstruction, that Iraqi companies and workers had been rejected and that the country was still without basic services. The result was increasing hostility, acts of sabotage targeted directly at foreign contractors and their work and a rising insurgency.

Read this article, it says it all, and unfortunately reminds us how few other articles mention this, and how stupid this whole "surge" thing is...I hope the military mutinies against Busholini! If they have any respect for their troops, they should!

1. the typical pattern is for the military to pave the way for our corporations
ww2 was an anomaly - to a degree.

this is the way american capitalism has worked since the barbary coast.

2. Had Bush gone in with the UN.. UN procurement laws would have ensured
that Iraqis themselves had a kick at the reconstruction can first.

4. The UN would NOT go in with bush because there was nothing
happening in Iraq for the UN to go in for.

As the UN said repeatedly.

5. Everything with conservatives is about
privitization, the furthering of the corporation over the people. All the people of this or any country exist for is to serve their corporate goals. This is why reasoning about things like health care here doesn't work. They don't care about the costs (to us) only the cost effectiveness for the insurance companies. Iraq was their baby, it was their dream of starting a new country in their image and it shows the utter failure of the purist capitalistic system. If companies cannot improve their bottom line by means available they can only seek these new markets through the blood of the citizens. This kind of capitalism cannot coexist with democracy.

6. Juhasz is one of only a handful talking about the real cause of the war and not childish bullshit
and she nails it again here.

7. Not really a 'solution' - but it might mean things aren't quite so bad
If reconstruction had been done purely by Iraqi companies right from the start, with just materials imported where needed, or specialist engineering, the infrastructure would be a lot better, and maybe the insurgency would have less support. But it's not as if this will 'solve' Iraq now. The fighting is about a lot more than crap infrastructure, or stolen money.

8. Again the unltimate of stupid! I am surprised it isn't worse, with
60% unemployment, electricity a few hours a day, war in the streets, murder and mathem, and all the etcs. Bush should be made to live in the Green Zone to personally supervise the war. He is after all Commander-in-Chief. The war would be over by the end of the day.
