Is There Time to Alter America's Legacy of Greed and Destruction
A. Alexander, December 17th, 2006

What will be America's legacy? When one pauses to consider, in the six short years of Bush and Republican "leadership," just how far the nation has fallen; it becomes obvious that we, America, the onetime Empire, cannot long endure. Not even the United States of America can survive without real leadership. True enough the land mass, some semblance of Congress, a court system of sorts, the Presidency, and other symbols of "nation" will remain. But the dominant America, the global economic powerhouse, and quite possibly -- likely? -- the democratic America isn't long for this world. Therefore, it is sensible to ponder what, should nothing change, America's legacy will be.

For those unwilling or unable to concede the fact that America is nearing its twilight, consider the nation's current standing. Consider our country's true standing and not the place that we too often like to delude ourselves into believing, is our standing.

A large portion of America's debt -- almost exclusively under Bush and Republican "leadership" -- is now financed by China and Saudi Arabia. Bush and Republicans have increased the nation's debt by an unimaginable sum of trillions upon trillions of dollars. The world community looks at our military and sees a machine capable of incalculable destruction, but, too, constitutionally incapable of securing victory anywhere.

Still, America's peril cannot be fully described in budgetary and geopolitical terms. Schools are failing; college education is out of reach for more and more families; wages are stagnant; more than 40 million people are without healthcare; nearly 37 million Americans are now living in poverty and their ranks continue to grow; infrastructure is crumbling; and through it all our society and elected officials debate burning flags and gay marriage.

America will never be the same. And whether we Americans can admit it or not - if our nation maintains its current trajectory; collapse is inevitable. So yes, it is appropriate to ponder what our legacy, our epithet will be.

1. It most definitely IS appropriate to ponder our legacy --
and how to change it before it's too late.

3. Perhaps America will eventully
take its place in the community of nations as part of the North American Union. We will spend Ameros once the US dollar tanks due to the massive loss of value. Thus the long time strategy of the Tri-lateral commission - developing three major power blocks, the North American Union, United Europe, and (a deviation from plan) capitalist China will be substantially realized.
What happens next, one can only guess, but a gradual move toward a world parliamment will probably figure into the equation. A rational result of globalization.

Before Bush, things were still possible. Now, the black hole has seized control of our trajectory, and there is no way out but in.
