AZ Republic Dem endorsement calls Hayworth a "bully"
Edited on Fri Oct-27-06 12:20 PM by longship
With tightening polls in AZ-5, probably the last thing Repuke J.D. Hayworth needed was to be called a bully by a major newspaper. But that's just what has happened. What effect this will have on the outcome is uncertain. However, I'll bet that the Hayworth campaign is scrambling like crazy. This morning, the Arizona Republic endorsed Democrat Harry Mitchell in Arizona's 5th Congressional district.

Here's another Dem campaign that needs our help:

Mitchell over the bully

Oct. 27, 2006 12:00 AM. The biggest problem in Congress is extreme partisanship, and Rep. J.D. Hayworth, R-Ariz., is among Capitol Hill's worst offenders.

Hayworth always has been an enthusiast for rough-and-tumble politics.

And there's a place for that. The outraged-partisan routine works pretty well on Sean Hannity's radio show or the Fox News Channel, where Hayworth often does yeoman's work blasting anybody who doesn't agree with him. It works poorly, though, in discussions or debates - forums in which even small measures of civility can go a long way.

And that scalding approach doesn't help get anything done.

It is high time to hit this matter squarely: J. D. Hayworth is a bully. He may not yet have reached the point where you can't take him anywhere, but you certainly can't take him to a calm, civil discussion.

The Arizona Republic has recommended Hayworth's election each of the past six times he has run for Congress. In those editorials, we noted his characteristic bluster and needlessly confrontational attitude but also praised his strong work ethic and dedication to serving his district's constituents.

2. I hope Mitchell wins-classier Representative
J.D. Hayworth is truly a cartoon character. Shame on AZ for repeatedly sending him to DC.

"He no longer reflects the 5th Congressional District, which, while solidly Republican, has a progressive and moderate complexion."

Having once lived in that area, I'm pleased to kick and recommend.

7. Finally, the AZ Republic sees Hayworth for what he is
For them not to endorse an unindicted, Republican incumbent is unusual for them.

10. It's difficult to get replies in the Editorials forum
which is partly why I tend to post in GD.

But this is an amazing development, isn't it?

11. Tried to reply
Discovered title changed! Lol. I had the post open in my browser while I went to lunch, and came back to discover that it could no longer be found. Guess I should have responded sooner. :)

I'm sending the link to Mitchell's website to my fundie Repub father in Southern AZ because I think it may be a second cousin of his. He's not in that district, and wouldn't vote for a Dem anyway, probably, but I thought I'd let him know I was donating money to the campaign and urge him to do so as well. My father will probably blow a gasket. Which is reason enough to donate! :D

Thanks for posting it.

15. Notice how Chimy (and most repuk pols) are all talking like Rush?
Bravo!!! About f****ng time!

As a masochistic observer of right wing radio nuttery I've noticed that during dim son's reign or error he has consistently speaks just like he's reading hate talkers' script- part of always keeping the message going to your base. Example: Last 2 times he spoke at press conference he says "Democrat Party"- a very popular rw slam.

And I am still stunned to think that these assholes actually think they can actually govern like this.

16. When i lived in AZ, (not Hayworth's district), he was declared
the least bright of all the Congressmen in the House. In fact, he was often called an idiot. But the people of his district thought he was doing them good by brining Federal dollars into the district. He was a lousy sportscaster, and ran for the House, he truly is something to behold; he is a classic bully, and when someone gets the better side of him in an intellectual situation, (all the time), he just gets louder....you'd think he would get an education while he was in DC, he doesn't do much else but screech.

By far, the dimmest bulb in the chandelier.
