Newsweek: George Allen's Problem With honesty - Vote it up!
Alter: George Allen's Problem With honesty - Newsweek Jonathan Alter - MSNBC.com

In a campaign, developments that might otherwise be one-day stories end up crystallizing deeper doubts about a candidate.

By Jonathan Alter
Newsweek
Oct. 2, 2006 issue - In a subdued speech at the end of a rough week, Virginia Sen. George Allen didn't mention anything to the evangelical Family Research Council about his discovery of his Jewish heritage. He didn't reassure his audience that, as he had told the Richmond Times-Dispatch, "I still had a ham sandwich for lunch. And my mother made great pork chops." And he didn't apologize for the umpteenth time for using a North African racial slur, "macaca" (monkey), against an American student of Indian descent who works for his Democratic opponent, James Webb. Instead, Allen talked at length about his devotion to "the values of family and honesty." The irony escaped him. After all, the main reason he's self-destructing as a national political figure is concern over whether he's honest about his family and himself.

Please vote this up. I want as many people as possible to read it. -- Especially Virginia voters.

There is another story in Newsweek this week about the Rove protoges. One is working for Michael Steele (R) Maryland. Another is working for Allen. Allen has been pretty good at negative ads and spreading false info about his opponents without the Rovette's help. Get on your hip boots because it is going to get pretty deep around here.

2. Thank you for linking to this. Excellent, concise
retelling of Allen's recent and not so recent self-inflicted trouble. Alter even mentions the racist graffiti story told by Ryan Lizza in the New Republic last April that the corporate whores have been steering clear of. The only question remaining is whether Virginians want to be represented in the Senate by a lying racist Bush ass kisser or a former Secretary of the Navy war vet.

3. Great article. Thanks for finding it.
Allen shouldn't be in any public office, as Howard Dean so ably put it. Let's get some $$$ going Webb's way and help him get some go-for-the-jugular ads on the air.
