Flight Attendant fight about all working Americans - 09/19/2006

By Doug Cunningham

Flight Attendants at Northwest believe their battle is important for the future of all working America. Doug Cunningham has more:

The CWA’s Rick Thornton says despite a court injunction flight attendant strike preparations are continuing as the union resists harsh concessions imposed by Northwest Airlines.

: “The government has made it difficult for any group to get ahead. And corporate America, of course, is making sure that no one gets ahead. So now to have the legal system also playing roulette with our futures is simply unacceptable. So the fight will continue. It will be very strong.”

1. Absolutely, Steve
One of my best friends is a FA for NWA, who has been furloughed twice in the past five years, so I've been following the recent happenings very closely.

2. If they really, truly believed that,
then why didn't the stand with the mechanics and ground workers and pilots when they had the chance? Instead, Northwest gets to pick them all off, one by one, and they're almost done.

7. Yeah, I know.
It's just that every single one of them, when contract time came, talked about how they were going to stay strong and how they hoped all the other unions would support them because their contract was going to decide the fate of unions everywhere in the western world...after waving "ta ta!" to the mechanics.

The way they all rolled over made me sick, frankly. If they'd all held the line at the same time, things would be different.

4. Maybe that is why they left their old union

and joined the CWA a couple months ago.

5. Bread and butter issue is what we need to stress
between now and the election. The war is important yese, but this hits people where they live.

6. /rant on
My Boyfriend has worked for Delta for 27 years. After all the recent paychecks he now makes what he was making in 1983. Think about that. Think about being 51 years old and having your company cut your wages back to what you were making 23 years earlier.

If the Democrats REALLY want to know what the people want it is this:

WE WANT SOME GOD DAMN PARTY TO GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE WORKING CLASS IN THIS COUNTRY AGAIN!

If the Democratic party can manage to come together and work for the good of the working class then no doubt they would win in a landslide.

I want to see them standing up and raising their voices in defense of us.

Stop talking about all the smaller wedge issues and get on the ONE THING that will save our country.

Without the working middle class this country will not survive and will sink into yet another corrupt 3rd world country with the Have Everythings on one side and the Have nothings on the other side.
