Bush says he learns lesssons from Vietnam in Iraq war
President Bush says his leadership of the war in Iraq is informed by mistakes he believes were made in Vietnam. "I remember the tactical decisions being made out of the White House during that period of time," Bush told conservative columnists. "I thought it was a mistake then and I think it's a mistake now."

In his interview on Tuesday, Bush, without naming President Richard Nixon, was critical of Nixon's leadership in Vietnam, the war the current administration least likes to see compared to Iraq.

A president, Bush said, "must have confidence and faith in the people who are actually there determining whether or not our strategy, our tactics are going to achieve the objective, which is a free country that can sustain itself, govern itself and defend itself."

To avoid that, Bush touted his close link with Gen. George Casey, commander of the multinational forces in Iraq and the man Bush counts on for decisions concerning troop strength.

4. Passing the fricking buck as usual.
Everyone knows we don't have enough troops in Iraq, but Chimpy says as long as he doesn't hear that from Casey, then he's not responsible for it.

What a cock.

6. Lessons that he learned
1. Don't let the GUARD get away with murder like they did during Vietnam. And say, who would know better than Pretzledunce AWOL, after all? Instead, make the Guard and Reserve do most of the heavy lifting. Again and again and again and...again...and....again.....

2. The shittier the equipment, the more likely the soldier will be KIA. Now, KIA is handy when you want to whip up patriotic fervor AND cut your hospitalization and long term care costs, but it can get iffy if people start NOTICING that kids are getting killed. So first, be sure to stuff the ranks with plenty of kids from broken and dysfunctional homes--that way, fewer people will miss them if they get popped. When kids die, as they will in a war zone, dole out the body armor when people start complaining. If they keep complaining, up-armor a few of the HUMVEES. If they STILL complain, give them lame IED protection, but not the "good" system from Israel. Then, wave your arms and bellow "TERRA, TERRA, TERRA!" at every opportunity.

3. Your campaign theme? "BE VERY AFRAID!"

4. Call anyone who disagrees with you a coward, a traitor, an appeaser and a HITLER wannabee. That's a helluva step up from Nixon's lame claim that the "silent majority" agreed with him. Pay no attention to facts, or the honorable military records of your opponents. Get your lackeys to repeat these themes at EVERY opportunity.

Remember, they're just CHICKEN, you're the CHICKENHAWK, George!

12. lessons? He skipped out of that particular class!
"I thought it was a mistake then" -- oh really. He didn't "think" intensely enough about it to notice all the anti-war activity on the Yale campus, including the arrest of the chaplain, Rev. Coffin. (Seeing that we only have Bush's word that Coffin bad-mouthed his dad, I'm skeptical of that story.) Plus he didn't hesistate to dump all over a classmate who wanted to resist the war and move to Canada.

"In the fall of 1967, when huge numbers of college students were marching on Washington to protest the Vietnam War, Bush was quoted in the New York Times defending the branding of fraternity pledges with a hot coat hanger, saying the resulting wounds resembled "only a cigarette burn."

In a recent interview, Bush said he has no recollection of any anti-war activity on campus during his undergraduate years – an extraordinary statement considering that Coffin was by then a leader of the national anti-war movement and was arrested for aiding and abetting draft resistance during Bush's senior year."

""I told him I was thinking about going to Canada and he said, 'That's , that's irresponsible,' " recalled Robert Birge, a fellow Bonesman."
