Desire is strong in Dems to impeach

MacEachern
THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC
Aug. 13, 2006 12:00 AM

Impeachment hearings? Nobody launches "impeachment hearings."

Should Democrats reassume control of the House of Representatives this fall, an increasingly likely event, they will not convene hearings focused on the possible impeachment of President Bush. Just ask any Democrat in Washington except the delightfully candid Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., whose lust for impeachment is almost refreshing.

"Impeaching the president is so far-fetched it's ridiculous," Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid told me last week while in Phoenix for Democratic Senate candidate Jim Pederson. advertisement

Reid said he was "very glad" for the opportunity to debunk the 350-page "investigative report" released last week by Conyers in anticipation of a Bush perp walk out of the White House.

"Regarding Conyers, he's been called into (House Minority Leader Nancy) Pelosi's office," said Reid. "Don't worry about that (report)."

4. I'm finding it hard to believe that Reid really spoke that way about
Conyers. It's so condescending and dismissive.

6. The Presidents term would be over before the process plays out..

I think what Senator Reid really meant was Of course there are issues the President could be impeached for. By the time congress went through the whole process the Presidents term would be just about over and we would be in the middle of the 2008 election campaign. A Democratic controlled congress would need to focus on getting this country back on track..That certainly wont happen in just one Congressional term.

8. Hello? Not criticizing.
If anything, doing the opposite. I did read the article, and those were direct quotes.

9. Let Me Get This Straight
BushCo can shred the Constitution, commit egregious war crimes in multiple countries, turn the US into a fascist state, and IMPEACHMENT would be out of the question?

And IMPEACHMENT of Bush would be no more significant than Clinton's blowjob hearings?

Have I slipped into the Twilight Zone?

10. "Have I slipped into the Twilight Zone?"
Worse. You've slipped into Bushworld, the alternate reality, blue-is-gray, up-is-down universe.
