From my blog...

Advice to George W. Bush

Instead of “staying the course”, try “taking a course”; in anything…especially world history and the U.S. Constitution! Or how about a mini-course in science…you know…where you can learn that human beings need oxygen to live and that without oceans and plant life WE ALL DIE!

4. The Sumbitch
is proud of being semi-literate. It's been mentioned many times, but I think it's worth repeating just to drive the point home. He famously is known for not reading newspapers. "Staying the course" means being pigheaded and having contempt for other viewpoints.
