Mexico editorial tilts to the right

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel Editorial Board, under its new Cuban-American editorial chief, is showing its right-wing leanings in the July 12 editorial regarding Mexico's election results and how wonderful it is for a right-wing Felipe Calderón to have beaten the people's candidate, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

The terms "leftist" and "pink tide" in this editorial demonstrate anything but a clear thinking and fair look at the politics of Mexico. Under Calderón, Mexico's oil chief, we can expect more of the same desperate poverty that has driven thousands of people to leave their families and risk their lives to provide a living for themselves by coming into the U.S., just like under current President Vicente Fox.

As the Mexican people witness a possible continuation of fraud and stolen elections in their political process, the cause of bringing economic justice to the Mexican people through the democratic process remains an unattainable dream and a cause for political unrest.

This editorial demonstrates the disdain and bigotry against the use of democracy to attain the economic justice for citizenry that will never be attained through "globalization" of economies. The term "globalization" is right-wing speak for the concentration of wealth in the hands of the few at the expense of the general citizenry. In other words, greed.
