What part of "rule of law" do you not understand?
Checking the Decider

By Eugene Robinson

"Finally.

It seemed almost too much to hope for, but the Supreme Court finally called George W. Bush onto the carpet yesterday and asked him the obvious question: What part of "rule of law" do you not understand?

The justices rejected the kangaroo-court tribunals the administration had planned for the detainees who have been held for years without charges at Guantanamo Bay --"

1. Great, but...
So, since W. has no intention of complying, what do you think his excuse for not complying will be? Will he claim that his powers while acting as "commander-in-chief during wartime" means he can ignore the SCOTUS as well as the law; will he start another whine about "activist judges"; will he just ignore the ruling entirely or will he use it as an excuse to deny the prisoners trials altogether? Or he could just have a SCOTUS judge or two assassinated and install his kind of judge in their place (yes, that's a joke but I wouldn't put it past him).

2. Bush BITCH SLAPPED by the Rule of Law! (my rant)
Hamden v. Rumsfeld - what a wonderful victory for Democracy over King George! And what an apt legacy for Donald Rumsfeld. Forevermore, Don's name will be attached to a Supreme Court ruling that states the President ISN'T superior to the other 2 branches of goverment, EVEN IN A TIME OF WAR! Suck on that one, Donald.

I have to admit that I danced the jig when I read this ruling. My heart was filled with joy in the knowledge that, if King George gets pissed and decides to throw me in jail for refusing to bow down to him, at least I still have a right to a jury by my peers, the right to confront my accusers and the right to be informed of the 'evidence' against me. SO SUCK ON THAT, REPUKES!

Up till now, most of the GOP sh*t-heads were harboring fantasies of a republican KING, who could cross his fingers when he signed legislation, ignore any law that, in his sole opinion, impinged on his ability to fight his self-declared (and unending) 'war on terra', and deem anybody he chooses 'enemy combatants' and throw them into a cell forever, without charges and without access to attorneys. This was the GOP wet dream!

What better way to intimidate your political opponents and the media! Just say the magic words "you're interfering with the war on terror," and watch the scared subjects run and hide! Then, when they're good and scared, trot out the empty suit to tell them only GW can make baby not be scared no more. If that doesn't convince 'em to vote GOP, just threaten to jail reporters who don't mimic the GOP official talking points, and tell the scared masses that, unless you vote GOP, you will likely die tomorrow in a nukular blast. Then sit back and watch the election returns rollin. Eternal victory and eternal power was theirs, right? WRONG!

SORRY, WE AINT A MONARACHY YET!

That's REALLY gotta sting the ditto heads.

This ruling is going to make it just a bit harder for all of the fascist creeps to conduct their intimidation and smear campaign against those of us who still believe in a representative democracy, where the PEOPLE get to make the laws, and the president has to FOLLOW those laws.

Sucks to be a GOP today! LOL!

4. The Congress (Pat Roberts ) is already gearing up to okay what-
ever their pothead pretender wants. Even ole Arlen isn't making a pretense this time of not buckling under. The dems have their work cut out. We must get more of them in and soon or truly our democracy is over.
