Blanco signs law that would ban abortions

NEW ORLEANS (Reuters) - Louisiana Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco signed into law a ban on most abortions that would be triggered if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns its 1973 ruling legalizing the procedure, a spokesman said on Saturday.

The Louisiana ban would take effect if Roe v. Wade is overturned. Medicaid, which provides health benefits for the poor and disabled, requires funding for abortions in cases of rape or incest. Louisiana would allow those exceptions so long as it was required for Medicaid funding.

Bad enough when the 'pubs do it.

1. sad, hunh?
This is a "Democrat" trying to suck up to the religious right (which is HUGE in LA between the Baptists and the Catholics) and hoping against hope to be reelected.

3. I'm surprised they kept the rape/incest exception

but if Roe is overturned, look to the repukes to take that off the requirements for Medicaid funding-as well as any help for children once they are born.

Edited to add: what I'd like to see is some Dem legislator suggest legislation requiring every lawmaker that voted to ban abortions to either adopt an unwanted child or pay support for one that remains at an orphanage. Let these people walk their talk--if they think "right to life" is where its at, truly support life by supporting an unwanted child. It would be interesting to find out what the repuke legislators would say in reply.

they won't pay for it with theirs. That goes for Republicans mostly.

6. But that is the point of the bill
If it doesn't pass, it shows the legislators out to be the hypocrites they really are.
