Ex-envoy Wilson takes to his status as hero/villain:Wife of ex-CIA operati

Former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV likes to remind audiences that he has worked in Republican administrations.

"My first political appointment that actually required congressional approval was by George Herbert Walker Bush," he told a Las Vegas audience Wednesday night.

But Wilson is now in a highly politicized position -- a hero to the left, a villain to the right. It is a status he seems to embrace.

"They seem damn determined to turn us into folk heroes," Wilson said of himself and his wife, the former Valerie Plame, who he says were victims of a White House smear campaign.
