National Guard and the Border. Now I get it…It’s a Parade!
Edited on Wed May-17-06 01:02 PM by pinto
Now I get it.

Bush loves a parade – the uniforms, the flags, the pomp and circumstance.

The Bush base loves a parade.

The media loves a parade. Nearly every talking head on TV has mentioned “show of force” at some point.

Of course, if you’ve been watching this Administration for the last 5 years, show is the operative word.

The plan is to relocate regular training for National Guard troops to border towns. Once there, they’ll apparently provide backup support services and training to the Border Guards who routinely work – and live – along the border.

What that entails remains a mystery. Attorney General Gonzales couldn’t provide any insight when questioned on Wolf Blitzer’s CNN show yesterday. He couldn’t even say if National Guard troops would be armed. Or wouldn’t say…

Does anyone really think that rotating NG troops into border towns for two weeks of training will effectively make any difference? Two weeks? They’ll hardly have time to figure out where the damn border is, let alone “protect” it. Regardless of their take on immigration or the border issue, Americans will see this as a farce.

It has all the makings for mismanagement on a Katrina scale, played out in two-week installments.

What a waste of manpower that may very well be needed elsewhere, at a moment’s notice.

Bush ought to save his parades for the Fourth of July and let the adults figure this one out.

2. Mexico Voters Fear Chaos as Election Draws Near
Bush loves a parade. Vincente Fox loves to encourage Mexicans to flow over the borders. Bush talks about using the National Guard. He gives a speech almost universally rejected by Americans. (About 80% favor locking down the borders). The Senate passes an Amnesty for Immigrants Bill disguised as a bill favoring reform of immigration.

Congress ignores Americans. What else is new?

Get This -- The Latest Outrage

Mexico voters fear total chaos is coming just before the Presidential election. People are demonstrating in the streets about corruption. Large crowd were waving machetes and burning ads promoting the coming election.

'Timing is all,' said Shakespeare. Did anyone voting in the Senate to throw open U.S. borders realize what is about to happen in Mexico? The entire nation is about to be thrown into chaos. Millions more than were projected to cross will want to cross in chaos and revolution breaks out in violence.

Mexico city is corrupt and run by crooked politicos like a drug cartel city. Drug dealers kill police, cut off their head and display the heads openly to brag 'we are in control.' The Mexican Army escorts coyotes to the border. Mexican Special Forces troops control all border smuggling including cocaine, tar heroin, pot, methampethamines and people looking for work. These special forces troops use the latest methods to avoid our border patrols. They are armed and dangerous.

All hell may break out along the border.

3. I'm talking about the farce of the National Guard on the border.
It's a sham. The points about what we want to see happen on the border and what Mexico does or doesn't do is another issue. My point was the NG deployment. Specifically, it's showboating and ineffective and a waste of manpower. Not a real solution. A parade. A pep rally. And a poorly managed one at that.

Just my two cents, but his is how the discussion often goes sideways, imho.
