Robert Freedman (Common Dreams): Gelded Donkeys

Gelded Donkeys: Why the Democrats Are Worse Than Useless
By Robert Freedman

In the Sherlock Holmes mystery, Silver Blade, it was the dog that didn't bark that fingered the killer. As Holmes explained to Watson, the reason for the silence, even as the victim was being murdered, was that the dog must have known the killer - its own master. Viola! Mystery solved.

In a similar fashion, amidst the most catastrophic presidency in the history of the country, it is the donkey that doesn't bray that identifies the culprit. And the culprit, of course, is the donkey's master. It is a who-dunnit of Olympian proportions, for the fate of the country hangs on its solution.

The extent of the disaster of the Bush presidency is almost beyond cataloguing. But it is worth trying in order to comprehend the stunning impotence of the Democrats in offering any meaningful opposition . . . .

(W)here is the thundering anger at the destruction of the nation? Where is the outrage as our financial solvency is being destroyed, our moral standing defiled, our military broken, our sacramental precepts of governance strangled to death before our very eyes? Where is the righteous fury that must surely -surely!- attend such brazen plunder, such naked arrogation of power, such shameless, mocking deceit? Where is the leadership that will stand against such palpable treason? Where, in other words, are the Democrats?

They are nowhere to be found.

1. A good essay. Very tough on the Democratic leadership...
... very unforgiving.

But it really needs to be said.

The extent of the disaster of the Bush presidency is almost beyond cataloguing...

The sound of outrage from our party's leaders should be deafening, impossible to ignore. It should be filled with provacative statements, hard truths, and solid ideas to get this nation back on track.

Instead we get warm milk and whitebread toast with the crusts cut off.

:(

2. To make it simple
Our elected Dems are just about as culpable as the pukes.

Lets have some real investigations and throw all the crooks out!

3. Brilliant article! He didn't' mention Al Gore because he isn't currently
an office holder but Al is the only Democrat out there with tremendous courage and passion. Feingold coming in a close second, though.

4. No rebellion of the stooge Democrats will be forthcoming.
We must throw them out right along with their Republican friends, or we will continue to suffer the consequences of the corrupt and inept rule they collectively provide us with.

5. If not throw them out, at least but the fear of progressive voters in them
While I still expect Lieberman to win his Senate race this year, the primary challenge from Lamont is healthy and we should expect Lamont to make a good showing.

8. Call a person who lies a liar! We can get the game going ourselves!
We know by now that most of the Democratic Party learders (Feingold, Boxer, Dean excepted) are toothless and spineless. We must take over for them. If you blog, call every lie a lie. Write the editors and scream the truth. Put signs on your lawns and cars that tell the truth, make your own. Call in to every talk show that you can. Tell The Truth! Put your money where it will do the most good. Do not give any money to anyone who is not fighting for this country! Write and warn these good, guiet Dems. that they will not get money from you until and unless they start standing up for America! Enough of us do it and they will start caring. Spend the same amount of time as you do here, getting the message out to someone other than the choir.

Do not let the lies stand. Call a liar, a liar! Be specific and truthful.
