NY Daily News: (NY) Vote machine fiasco ripped
BY FRANK LOMBARDI
DAILY NEWS CITY HALL BUREAU

Officials warned yesterday that the Albany voting machine fiasco could force the city to spend $7.5 million for units that would have to be scrapped after a single use.

That prospect was outlined at a City Council budget hearing by John Ravitz, executive director of the city Board of Elections.

Last week, the Justice Department sued New York State for failing to comply with the Help America Vote Act, passed after the clouded 2000 presidential election.

...snip...

So far, New York is the only state to be sued for its failure to comply.

1. What about the clouded 2004 presidential election??????
Resurrect a new version of the American Voting Machine (AVM) mechanical voting machine. They have always worked well for many decades and can not be hacked.

2. There's nothing wrong with paper ballots
Canada uses it and the results are ready in time for the 11 p.m. news.

3. There's Plenty Wrong With Paper Ballots
Much more difficult to Rig elections that way.

Oh....you still naive enough to think we're in a Democracy, where every vote matters and counts?

4. The ONLY reason this works in Canada and elsewhere
is that, generally, they vote for ONE office at a time. Think about how many different offices and resolutions we vote on in a Presidential election year.

5. mechanical voting machines can be hacked if...
You drill a hole through the floor under the machine, and reach in with a hook on the end of a wire (yes, it's happened). But this is clearly much harder than hacking an all-electronic machine.
