McClellan Indicates Administration Won’t Cooperate With Congressional Hearings On Domestic Spying

Sen. Arlen Specter (R-PA), the chairman of the Senate judiciary committee, has pledged to hold congressional hearings on Bush’s warrantless domestic spying program. At today’s press briefing, Scott McClellan made it pretty clear that administration officials wouldn’t cooperate:

Q And my question is, does the White House take this into account, will it try to talk to them, will it participate in the hearings?

MR. McCLELLAN: Like I said, and the President has said we’ve briefed members of Congress on more than a dozen occasions.

Q But that’s not what they’re talking about.

MR. McCLELLAN: And in terms of discussions about this, the President talked about this at his end-of-the-year news conference. We shouldn’t be talking about intelligence activities, particularly in a time of war, in a public way. This is a highly classified authorization –

.......lot more of his nonsence talk!

1. This is wrong on so many levels.
WHO THE HELL does he think he is "protecting"? The PUBLIC? That is what he would have us believe.
BUT, this PUBLIC does not have any right to know what the cost to their civil liberties is? uh huh

Look at where their prior "intelligence activities" got us. Death and destruction.

Congressional Hearings. So a House investigation qualifies as a "public forum"? I believe it does, but he is defying the Legislative branch just as he defied the Judicial.
And it is all "lawful"? nuh uh

3. In BushCo's view, we only need one branch of gov:
And that's obviously the executive branch.

Their disdain for the role of Congressional oversight is just astounding. Arrogance to the fullest.

"We're at war", because we're not, really. That's just a little PR trick you use to cow the media whores into submission. :grr:

6. Brinksmanship At Its Worst (or Maybe Best)
This issue will definitely sort the good from bad, the smart from the stupid. We will see just how bad the situation in the Legislature is when Conyers Impeachment proposal comes through the system.

I'm hoping for good results, even if we have to wait until 3007 and a new Cogress. Americans, down deep in their grade-school trained souls, know that this is not acceptable.
