Russert credits lesson from nun for being aboveboard in CIA case

WASHINGTON - Tim Russert credits a maxim he learned from a Mercy nun in a West Seneca parish school for helping to guide him through the reefs surrounding the CIA leak investigation now engulfing the capital.
"If you tell the truth," Russert said in an interview, "you only have to tell it once."

"I was told that early in life by Sister Lucille," he said, referring to Mercy Sister Lucille Socciarelli, one of his teachers at St. Bonaventure School.

...

Libby faces criminal charges based on his grand jury testimony that Russert, in July 2003, gave him the name and identity of Plame as a covert operative for the CIA.

Russert testified that he told Libby no such thing. According to the indictment, the Buffalo native's challenge to Libby's testimony is at the core of the government's case against Libby on charges of perjury, obstruction of justice and making false statements.

5. How did you guess?

His good-little-Catholic-boy schtick is a bit much for me. And I'm REALLY glad that infernally-prolongued book tour about Big Russ and Little Russ is over. Seemed like every time I turned on the TV or radio there was Little Russ talking about the wisdom of Big Russ.

6. Actually, it was Jack Welch who turned Russert into a BFEE coverup man.

8. Au Contraire!
I've found that when I tell the truth, I have to do so repeatedly, because no one believes me. Furthermore, as a group, we Reality-based Americans find ourselves repeatedly repeating ourselves, trying to convince Koolaid Drinkers that up is up and down is down. It seems that an amiable lie, told to a gullible head-in-the-sand, trumps the naked truth any day of the week.

9. Certitude < > Reality
Edited on Fri Nov-25-05 12:21 PM by kineneb
They only have Certitude, and no clue on Reality. In their fantasy world, certitude trumps reality. Unfortunately, no one informed the Laws of Physics or other sciences about this (nor would it matter). Gravity still sucks, and the federal prosecuter can still indict them.

11. Why would a reporter be tempted to lie for the government?
Curious minds want to know.

12. What a load of bunk

All that weasel did was protect his own hide. He's shown about as much respect for honesty and as little integrity as any of the right wing pundits outside of FOX "news."

When he's not lying by implication, he's basically doing with his show what lawyers call suborning perjury.

I hope Libby's lawyer means what he says- and goes after Russert along with the rest of the so called "journalists" involved.

13. If you tell the truth.. you may have to repeat it over and over..
but you won't have to worry that it matches what you said yesterday, or last month or year...

(these people are pathetic)
