Alito - Abortion
Blogger Kevin Drum has Alito nailed on the abortion question. It's on paper, in a letter to the Reagan administration. Big, big, deal, or at least it ought to be if our Senators have any backbone.

------------------------------------------------------------

ROE v. ALITO....After a bit of routine brown nosing in a 1985 letter seeking a promotion in Ronald Reagan's Justice Department, Samuel Alito said this:

"It has been an honor and source of personal satisfaction for me to serve in the office of the Solicitor General during President Reagan's administration and to help to advance legal positions in which I personally believe very strongly. I am particularly proud of my contributions in recent cases in which the government has argued...that the Constitution does not protect a right to an abortion."

In Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court held that the constitution does indeed protect a woman's right to an abortion. It's a qualified protection, but a protection nonetheless, and Alito said he believed "very strongly" that this was incorrect not just as a personal matter, but as a "legal position."

1. Why do these men HATE abortion so much?
And it's always the Men - yes there are are a few women but the anti abortion leaders are overwhelming male. Well fed, well dressed pink men to be precise. I remember that horrible picture when * signed the late term abortion ban - not a woman in sight.

Why the hatred? Is that they just view women as some kind of brooding chamber that turns sperm in to male children and abortion threatens that? Is that it?
I really don't get it. I think it's the woman's choice, she has to bear the child she should be the one making the decision. It's a complicated and difficult topic without all these fat pink men screaming all the time.

2. Of course it's about controlling women--it was never about anything else.
The proof is: the pink men are supremely disinterested in actual infants, and they're anti-welfare. So we know it's not about "babies."
