Hastert's House plan picks pockets of poor

The ongoing costs of running a war in Iraq coupled with the devastation of two hurricanes along America's Gulf Coast have created close to a perfect storm of spiraling federal spending. <snip>

Hastert's plan would increase federal spending cuts to basic programs by at least $15 billion - to total cuts of $50 billion over the next five years. <snip>

Only last month Hastert and other House Republican leaders vowed they would pass a $70 billion tax-cutting measure that would extend a 15 percent rate on dividends beyond 2008. <snip>

Charity Eleson, executive director of the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families, said last week $13 billion of those cuts would fall on health and nutrition programs that serve children. <snip>

1. Dennis sure looks like he hasn't missed any meals. Maybe if they

had to live like the poor they'd get a better idea of what is right and what is truly WRONG with this country.
