Sometimes I wonder if I should apply for a job as an consultant to the current batch of
NeoConservatives that run this country? They could appoint me as "Token Liberal Advisor to the NeoCons." It is true that I hate them, and everything they represent, but if they heeded my advice we could save millions of lives together.
My motivation is not entirely altruistic; Government jobs have great benefits, such as pensions and full health-care coverage. What kind of American would I be if I couldn't put aside my differences with evil wanna-be dictators in order to make the world a better place, and earn a good salary while doing it?
It's the American way!
John Negroponte, the former Ambassador to Iraq and current director of National Intelligence, is the NeoCon who most needs my services. Yesterday I read about
how he is struggling to understand the Iraqi insurgency.
"There's a desirability, a thirst really, to get as much fidelity about what is happening within the insurgency, and I think also a feeling that much more could still be done in terms of finding out now what the nature of that insurgency is," he said.
So Mr. Negroponte, a man best known for heading up death squads in Honduras and funding terrorists in Nicaragua, can't figure out the true nature of the Iraqi insurgency?
This is a like a mugger struggling to understand why his victims don't enjoy being robbed, and then ponders what in their nature would make them want to call the police or fight back afterward?
Despite my opinions, as special "Token Liberal Advisor," my job wouldn't be to criticize: It would be to offer clear, solid information as to "the nature of the Iraqi insurgency." While I might demand a swank office in Washington DC like all the other advisors, I won't need any of the expensive toys the National Intelligence Agency has as it's disposal. (Such as satellite surveillance, phone taps and camera-pens.)
All I'd do is read
articles & blogs from people who live in Iraq. I could then tell Negroponte what motivates the Iraqi insurgency to kill American troops with enough fidelity that he would think he was standing in the stereo department of an electrics store.
In fact, as a sample as to how effective I would be, I've already come up with a synopsis as to the nature of the insurgency:
From an Iraqi's perspective, the United States is a foreign invader! The insurgents want the Americans out of Iraq. Period. The killing will only get worse until the United States commits to a solid time-table for a full withdrawal.
Wow! I am good at this "intelligence analysis" thing. I wonder if the White House NeoCons post advisor-jobs at
Monster.com?
