Where does terrorism start?
It is interesting that while medieval Europe strove to dissociate the great achievements of the flourishing Islamic civilisation from the Islamic religion, today's West insists on referring all Muslims' ills, from democratic failure to economic decadence, to the Islamic religion.

The terrorist plague is no exception. Its agents, we are told, are the product of an "evil ideology which must be uprooted".

Even so, this is only half of the truth. The questions we can not avoid are: why are would-be bombers driven towards this evil theology and not any other, after all it is hardly the only one on offer within the intensely diverse intellectual and political Islamic map?

What propels them to deviate from the mainstream body of Muslims and embrace a perverse interpretation that justifies the slaughter of innocent civilians?

1. True Terrorism Is A Desperate Response By Repressed People
Edited on Thu Sep-22-05 09:45 PM by Tace
State terrorism is something else. It always seeks to blame violent acts on someone else. 99% of what's called terrorism these days is state terrorism. Islamics are being scapegoated. They're sitting on some prime real estate.

4. a foreign policy based on corporate profit
probably doesn't help ... nor decades of propping up bad regimes ... nor selling weapons of mass destruction ...

Cheney's Energy Task Force likely overlays nicely with the PNAC and Council on Foreign Policy plans and studies.

wonder how Jimmy Carter's foreign policy focused on human rights would've turned out had we stayed the course?

"you reap what you sow" comes to mind

"If the past has taught us anything it is that every cause brings its effect, every action has a consequence. We Chinese have a saying: 'If a man plants melons he will reap melons; if he sows beans, he will reap beans.' And this is true of everyone's life; good begets good, and evil leads to evil. True enough, the sun shines on the saint and the sinner alike, and too often it seems that the wicked prosper. But we can say with certainty that, with the individual as with the nation, the flourishing of the wicked is an illusion, for, unceasingly, life keeps books on us all. In the end, we are all the sum total of our actions. Character cannot be counterfeited, nor can it put on and cast off as if it were a garment to meet the whim of the moment. Like the markings on wood which are ingrained in the very heart of the tree, character requires time and nurturing for growth and development. Thus also, day by day, we write our own destiny; for inexorably...we become what we do." - written by Madame Chiang Kai-shek according to a google.
