Freeper reacts to my LTE, leaves hate mail on my answering machine!
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 07:33 PM by Barrett808
Here's what he said:

Hey <Barrett>, you're pathetic. You're the one that should be impeached as an American, you piece of shit.

He left the message at 4:18 PM Pacific time. Caller ID said it was anonymous, but an unknown number called without leaving a message at 2:48 PM:

<phone number removed -- send me a private message if you want to pursue>

Haven't had any luck with the reverse phone number lookup -- any ideas?

Here's the LTE that set him off, in which I demand Bush's impeachment:

A tale of two gulfs

I have just witnessed unbelievable images from the New Orleans Convention Center. People are literally dropping dead. No food, no water, no official presence at all. A CNN reporter on the scene says there are "many, many bodies inside and outside the convention center."

This catastrophe is directly attributable to Bush policies. It has been well-documented by the Times-Picayune of New Orleans that George Bush starved the levee-construction effort to redirect money toward his invasion of Iraq.

Tens of thousands of Americans in New Orleans are at risk of imminent death by exposure, dehydration, starvation and disease. No amount of spin from Bush can conceal the scale of his malfeasance in this catastrophe.

I have urgently requested of my elected representatives:

1) Immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq, to support reconstruction efforts in the Gulf Coast;

2) Immediate reversal of tax cuts for the wealthiest citizens to offset the enormous cost of recovery;

3) Immediate drafting of articles of impeachment against Bush and his entire Cabinet.

I take it as an excellent sign that Bush supporters are getting this desperate and angry.

8. Yes report it to police and tell them you are fear for your life and your
families. You don't know what this asshole is capable of. If he took the time to look up your phone number, he might have your address and he can pay a few bucks to find out even more about you. REPORT IT NOW.

9. Excellent -- I found a pay service that charges $14.00 for a search
But no charge if it isn't found.

What do all think? Should I give it a whirl?

So, presumably, no charge.

7. Let it go and keep hammering away
Hold your head high and continue leading by your example. There is no such thing as bad publicity; if that creep read your letter, imagine all the people who agreed with you but didn't call to identify with you. Don't be intimidated; you were attacked, not your message. The lamebrain has no valid counterargument to the one you made. He probably can't even write.

14. That would be cool, but remember, that number might not be the guy
There were three calls:

2:48 given phone number, no message
4:17 Anonymous, no message
4:18 Anonymous with message

15. since you don't know if the unknown was the same
person who left threat, you could call back the number and say 'this is Barrett' and wait for a response. . .

then depending on the response, (innocent) explain that you were calling back for business blah blah

or if you have your threat, let them know you've reported them to authorities. And report to authorities.

17. The phone company DOES know the number that
Edited on Tue Sep-06-05 07:57 PM by rateyes
called you, and whose name is on the account...contact them, and find out what you have to do to find out the number...you might have to file a formal complaint, but there IS a way you can legally find out who owns the line.

IMHO, anyone who would call and not give their name is the real POS. He's a damned coward. My bet is, if you pursue this, it will be the last damned time he ever does that again.

22. Just A Thought
It was suggested to me recently by a knowledgeable friend when I complained about hard drives being blown out, repeatedly, and other apparent attacks. I was concerned about "government," but he suggested GOP.

20. So I called the Seattle Police Department
My phone company said they couldn't do a trace without a police report. So I called SPD and I had a nice conversation with the desk sergeant. He said they couldn't do anything with just the one call, and he advised me to get an unlisted number. I asked him if I should call the earlier unknown number, and he advised against it.

He said the caller should have written a letter to the editor, but maybe he didn't have the capacity to do that. I said that the guy sounded a little like Butthead, and that made the sergeant laugh.

So there it is for now.

25. Get an unlisted number post haste
If you have a listed number anybody can put it into Google and come up with not only your address but a map to your house. Very scary!

28. Thanks
I hate being paranoid too, but nowadays (particularly with the Patriot Act) one cannot be too careful. It is really scary when Joe Blow can just Google your address and a map to anyones house by knowing their listed phone number (e.g. 202-456-1111 ) :scared:

26. The Congressional Black Caucus experienced the same thing. Only
it was tons & tons of abuse all the time.

When nefarious types get found out - they go into a frenzy to keep their "dominance over how everything is perceived". And just like their hate has to be reflected and projected onto scapegoats, now the "frenzy" has to be projected and acted onto scapegoats.
These freepers or rovbots, or whoever were called CBC or wrote you back, are just doing what they always do and reflect back to their "leader" what he is feeling.

It is like the "leader" has to walk the world surrounded by his own "greek chorus" to show him how he feels. Because he cannot feel it himself.
