How Bush's $87 Billion Affects Your State
Edited on Sat Sep-27-03 11:32 AM by Ramsey
I posted this in GD as well, but it might be better off in Editorials. A very interesting site by the National Priorities Project, which has a state by state breakdown of how the extra $87 billion Bush wants for Iraq is taking away from domestic priorities.

http://www.nationalpriorities.org/issues/military/iraq/factsheet03/index.html

Invading and Occupying Iraq: The Impact on Your State offers a state-by-state breakdown of how President Bush's requested $87 billion in additional war spending could be spent instead to create more jobs and meet community needs at the same time. This Factsheet also provides a graphic illustration of current federal spending priorities, comparing the total amount of war-related spending with spending on basic needs such as food and nutrition, the environment, housing, education, the environment and veterans' benefits.

2. What's $87BB buying Iraq?
Not much. But there are people making tons on this 21st century latest method to transfer wealth into the hands of the Republican Party.

5. 87 bil
Glad you posted this again. My son-in-law at the radio station is going to put this on local news. We all know that 87 bil is a lot of money but few understand how this is going to affect the states. Only when it hits the voter's pockets will it hit home. This is a great tool for Democrats to use. This radio station is beholden to no one and is gladly using it.

6. They do close to what I have wanted to see done re: the tax cut
http://www.nationalpriorities.org/taxday2003/taxday03.html

lets one go to local states and communities and see where taxes go; then shows who would get what on the (then proposed) tax cut.

What would be great - now that the tax cut has gone into effect would be to see the same chart they did with the 87 billion - be done for the tax cut. then one sees locally who got what - as well as what services lost what.

9. I took a look at some numbers when the $87 billion request came out
and if that money were used instead as federal revenue sharing, it would wipe out the budget deficits in all 50 states- including those on biennal budgets.

Such a tragedy. All that money could be circulating through our communities, creating (and keeping) well over a million jobs and resulting in a true recovery. Instead, it's wasted in a vain effort to clean up after our orgy of distruction.
