SF Chronicle Deliberately Misquotes Dean
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2005/06/10/EDGMMD62O21.DTL

HOWARD DEAN'S statement that the Republican Party is made up of nothing more than "white Christians" is wrong, reckless and offensive.
>snip<
Howard Dean owes all Democrats an apology.

*********************

I say we all demand that the SF Chronicle instead give Dean an apology! I just called and left a very angry reply at 415-777-7018 (editorial page editor)

1. The SF Chronicle is shit
I called the Chronicle a couple of weeks ago and d/c'd my paper. They always run conservative columnists without regard to the fact that the local population is 95% liberal. Does anybody here think that any newspaper in a conservative area would run Robert Scheer on a regular basis? The Chronicle is just as biased to the right as any other corporate rag. I don't miss it for one second.

3. God, I know what you mean
When I think of how good they used to be -and how bad they are now - not even the right-wing bias, just the quality of the writing and the accuracy in the new journalists just leaves so much to be desired.

2. My LTTE
Dear Editor,

I am stunned and outraged by the editorial entitled Dean's Tiny Tent in which the Chron deliberately and maliciously misquotes Dean. Howard Dean stated that the Republican Party is "mostly white christians", which is factually correct as even your journalist Carla Marinucci reported, when she supplied statistics which stated that the republican party is 82% white and christian.

Wow! 82%! Even I was surprised at how monolithic the Republican Party actually is.

Since Dean didn't actually say anything untrue, the Chron, in order to stir things up, had to put words in his mouth and so your editorial stated that Dean said the Republican Party was "made up of nothing more than 'white christians'" when you know very well he said nothing of the sort. Of course there are exceptions - that just proves the point.

Maybe by pointing out the facts, Dean is trying to make moderate Republicans aware of just how little diversity exists in the Republican Party despite the RNC's leadership's constant attempts at propaganda to hide this fact. Maybe they will be embarrassed enough to seek a different party - one that truly represents America.

The fact is, the Republican Party IS the party of white christians and their politics reflect that - why else does the Republican Party oppose affirmative action(except for themselves), seek to close the borders, cut funding for minorities and the poor , while giving themselves huge tax cuts that are threatening our country's solvency? Why else would some Republican political groups pay good money for David Duke's KKK mailing list?

Why doesn't the Chronicle report on that little-known fact instead of bashing Dean, who does speak for me and the rest of the grassroots Democrats who elected him as chair. We are proud of what he is doing.

An apology needs to be given, yes - the Chronicle needs to apologize to Dean and us grassroots Democrats.
