Star Wars sparks talk of 'George W Vader'
Star Wars sparks talk of 'George W Vader'

By Tangi Quemener

Los Angeles - A powerful leader moves to suspend civil liberties to defend the republic during a time of war. The subject of political debate in Washington? No, it's the new Star Wars movie.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge Of The Sith has barely hit screens, but political activists are already drawing heated comparisons between Darth Vader's battle in a galaxy far, far away and President George Bush's war on terror.

George Lucas's sixth and final offering in the classic film series is stirring up a hornet's nest of controversy in the United States, whether or not the director intended to bring modern politics into his sci-fi allegory.

"If you're not with me, you're my enemy," Anakin Skywalker, who goes to the "dark side" as the evil Lord Darth Vader, tells his onetime mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi in one scene in the film that raked in a record $50-million on its opening day in North America on Thursday.

1. More Like George-George Binks
The bumbling oaf who somehow winds up in high office, who unwittingly places the world into the hands of the PNAC Empire to the sound of "thunderous applause."

Who is The Emperor, then? Is it Cheney, or is he merely a Darth Maul, a colorful and vicious yet minor cog in the wheel? Is it Rove? There are so many Darths standing between this Emperor and justice...

2. Easy links can be drawn up...

... put a black hood over Cheney... he's the Emperor. Close your eyes and listen to Bush try to construct a sentence, you'd swear it was Jar-Jar.

edit: Haha anyway, sometimes Cheney looks like he could shoot lightning out his fingertips... if it wasn't already coming out of his mouth.

3. But let's not forget Obi-Wan saying
'Only a Sith deals in absolutes'. If you agree then it says something about everyone to the right of your mainstream repug ie: 'Good vs Evil' 'Us and Them' etc

4. Of course the repukes are denying any message or links
I was flipping channels and the idiocy of FAUX caught my eye for a few moments. (why I haven't had the cable company block it yet is beyond me).
Cavuto was on and reading responses from his sheep saying that there was no comparison between bu$h and the sith.
which proves only one thing to me: (the movie was correct)
This is how Liberty dies... To thunderous applause.

6. "Dark Helmet" from the Mel Brooks spoof, more like it

Anakin seems to have had more courage, initiative, and idealistic intentions than *. Let's not forget that Bush had every advantage growing up, and parlayed that into a failing business career until the right-wing imagemakers seized upon him.

7. The Bad Guys are always the most popular characters, though.
Sad to say, but people respond more to Darth Vader than Luke Skywalker anyday.

Why is that, anyway?

8. even the light sabers Blue = good - Red=bad
too funny, we laughed out loud at the similarities to whats going on now. Except when the war broke out, it actually made be a little sick - it really hit home. Anyone that doesn't see the connections is living in la la land - oh yeah that's right they do live in la la land.
