Worldwide Humanitarian Crises Severely Under-Funded
"The overwhelming generosity to the tsunami-affected countries serves as an example of an effective and quick international response to a humanitarian crisis. However, Refugees International is concerned that personnel, resources and international aid have been diverted from other crises as a result of this outpouring of support. While Sudan and the tsunami-affected countries are receiving strong financial support, only 9% of the funds requested by the United Nations had been committed to other emergencies by the first quarter of 2005. RI is urging the international community to provide adequate, equitable assistance to the vulnerable in all emergencies."
