Rattled by its missteps, the Bush choir is no longer singing in tune

> A visit to Washington always makes me think.
>
> This time, a long talk with a shrewd observer of the place, coupled with four hours back on the turnpike at high speed, thoughts accompanied by on-and-off country music, produced some observations.
>
> The first is that the Bush administration has lost its pre-election pitch. It is acting like a choir when the sopranos have lost their place in the score. The other sections are trying hard to work around them and help them find the tune, but the music is wandering.
>
> The first sign was the mishandling of the Terri Schiavo case. Republican political geniuses obviously saw it as an issue to hop on and score points with in the political wars. On that basis they got Bush himself to leave Crawford to come to Washington to sign the bill the Congress had passed. That move ended up with an 80 percent public disapproval rating.

2. It's scary...
...just as you assume *'s supporters could not ignore the truth anymore they prove us wrong.

The only good thing is that all repukes are not crazed religious zealots ---- they appear to be (at minimum) a little uncomfortable with the unholy alliance the repukes have made with the RW-fundies, and the power they wield.

Let me have my optimistic delusions.

5. Many DUers, myself included, have long been asking which is worse:
1). working to keep all those promises made to the religious-right to get you that second term, pushing through their extremist agenda only to alienate moderates and independents and risk losing their support, or

2). going back on all those promises, proving you were only using the religious-right to get reelected, and incurring the wrath of God from a fanatic, impatient, and often dangerous group that seldom takes "no" for an answer.

I assumed either scenario would probably take the better part of the second term to unfold, and could only hope Shrub would screw-up enough to benefit us in the mid-terms. I would never have imagined he could accomplish both scenarios at the same time, and so quickly! The house of cards is only beginning to fall, and I'm too big a skeptic to get my hopes up too much yet. But I'm getting the economy-size bag of popcorn ready; this could get interesting!

4. Just about every day I see a new sign of it myself
I watch CSPAN a lot. Throughout the day I usually have one of the CSPAN channels on even if I'm outside or doing other stuff. (My dogs like CSPAN, despite what my husband says to the contrary) Yesterday, I caught a speech to the Natl Press Club by Sen. Chuck Hagel and was amazed at how much he sounded like an old fashioned real-live-moderate Republican. I had thought they were extinct until very recently. Then, a little later Sen. John Warner had a dust-up right on the floor of the senate with Sen. Kit Bond over cutting out money for water runoff/clean water act management (wow...a real public works project). Then we had the budget vote and got Chafee AND Voinovich AND all the Dems. The non wackos in the Repub party are slowly, quietly distancing themselves from Dufus, and it's really starting to show.
Is that chum in the water I'm smelling?
