The Bush steamroller chugs unmerrily along

...OK, what's going on isn't classically a coup, but the fact that the Republican Party already owns all three branches of the federal government has only excited a political avarice that is indifferent to the niceties both of law and of propriety...

The latest example is President Bush's constitutionally offensive and politically obscene federalizing of a painful right-to-die case, at least in part to punch up his and his party's partnership with anti-abortion Christian conservatives.

With a single rash gesture, the president violated the separation of powers, trivialized states' authority and blitzed the rule of law...

Where customary restraints have proved inhibiting, this administration and its party have simply steamrolled them...
