Bush mounts counter-offensive asking Kirchner to help contain Chavez
While the Presidents of Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela and Spain have been meeting in the South-eastern Venezuelan city of Puerto Ordaz, US President George W. Bush has mounted a counter-offensive, expressing his country's concern about the Venezuelan situation.

Bush has sounded out Mexico's Vicente Fox and Argentina's Nelson Kirchner to act as containers.

Speaking to Kirchner on the phone for more than 20 minutes, Bush first of all thanked Argentina for his role in helping democracy in Haiti and Bolivia. Kirchner is said to have told Bush that he would continue to dialogue with the democratic government of Venezuela. Bush has told Kirchner that he has a key role in stabilizing regional democracy.

. . .

White House spokesperson, Scott McClellan has confirmed that President Bush has expressed US concern over Venezuela to Vicente Fox and it appears that the matter was discussed in a meeting between Fox, Bush and Canada's Paul Martin last week in Texas.

The USA is banking on the Organization of American States (OAS) to monitor any deterioration of democracy in Venezuela.

4. Well, the Central Bank believes Chavez is a threat
according to Forbes:

Venezuela, the world's fifth largest oil exporter, has ramped up public spending amid a recent oil price boom. Industry observers say PDVSA's social programs are distracting the firm from its core operations of exploring and drilling for oil.

8. I thought that the benefits of a country's resources must be put to
use in improving the lives of the people. I guess I am old fashioned.

2. So far Chavez has been the democrat..
Bush the one who thinks coup de'teat normal..Chavez won the plebiscite overwhealmingly..The gaul of this little Texas dictator...The more of this goes on the further left Latin America wwill go....As to Bolivia...It is nothing more than a people's uprising...Cafta stealing Bolivian resources. Privitizing water..
It would take a Pinchoet to control what forces Bush's trade agreements has unleashed in Bolivia...
From what I have read of Kirchner, it is a miricle he did not hang up on Bush...Fox is the only US puppet left in the Western Hemisphere...It is only a matter of time, Blowback as the CIA calls it will sweep the Middle East. too..
