A Wedge Is Born: Gay Marriage and 2004
true to their nature, the Repuglicans are here with another wedge issue :puke:

http://www.msnbc.com/news/934834.asp?0cl=c1

July 14 issue — The Log Cabin Republicans, a gay and lesbian group, thought they had a friend in Sen. Bill Frist. As chairman of the GOP’s Senatorial Campaign Committee in 2002, the Tennessean rushed from the Capitol after a late-night vote to speak to the group’s annual meeting.

SO LOG CABIN LEADERS were shocked when Frist declared last week that he “absolutely” supported a constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between man and woman. “I was speechless,” said Mark Mead, the group’s public-affairs director. “It didn’t sound like Bill Frist.”

....

During the 90's it was Willie Horton, now, its Gays and Lesbians. :grr:

3. This can backfire
if the Repuglicans can be shown as mean (which they are), and if the "compassionate" facade comes off, they will lose votes.

If they bring up the issue of gay marriage, Democrats should bring up the issue of equal rights (especially ENDA - against job discrimination). More than 80% Americans support laws protecting gays and lesbians against workplace discrimination.

Most republicans voted against ENDA (it was lost by 1 vote in the senate in late 90's)

4. Republican opposing gay marriage?
I am shocked, amazed even. Whoever would have thought such a thing?

Those "Log Cabin" boys are a real hoot!

5. "It didn't sound like Bill Frist."
LOL!

Maybe I can help the Log Cabin folks understand:

REPUBLICANS HATE YOU FOR WHO YOU ARE!

Got it?

6. Shocked I tell you, shocked!
Those guys crack me up. They seem to live in a perpetual state of shock.

Many years ago one of our local gay rags was run by a log cabin republican. I used to read it because it had the best personals in town. I can't remember the issue but the newly elected republican governor, Pete Wilson whom they supported, turned right around and did something anti-gay. The next week their headline was, in big 80 point black letters that took up nearly half the page, "Fuck You!"

I had such a good laugh. What did they expect? Are they morons or simply delusional?
